You may recall a few "not even close to being famous" threads like Another Year Another Look 2010 or the equally unknown Another Year Another Look 2011 thread. My 950 has gone through many changes, sucked an undisclosed amount of money out of my bank accounts and has provided years of break downs in remote places. I compare it to a Russian high priced whore. Not even close to being predictable, costs a fortune, creates a love hate relationship like no other and yet it's a wild banshee of a ride. It screams, it bucks, it moans but if you act aggressively and take control it is the ultimate ride. A glimpse to the past. It started out like this... It later looked like this..... Then it morphed into this...... As winter set in this past fall it looked like this..... Today these rear rally replica tanks arrived on my doorstep. Thanks Pete The build quality and finish are amazing With the arrival of these tanks I begin the build of the KTM 950 rrr, aka Back and Blacker, ka The Russian Whore Sorry Flanny, the extra r is just to one up ya Blacker? That's right Geek My apologies to Russians whores all over the world, please take no offense I'm just having fun My bike is currently nothing more than a frame with a leaky engine. Over the next couple of months I'll build what KTM should have sold, in my opinion, from the factory. A rally replica 950
I call mine a KTM 950X. The X stands for all the Xtra time, Xtra crap and Xtra money it has taken. On second thought I should call it a 950XXX I can't wait to see what you do! Pass the popcorn!
on behalf of all the "windscreen disgust" readers ,does the screen work ,if so what is it? like the look of it anyway.
Had no back brakes for about 1.5 years...that WILL be fixed Ya me too but it is being ripped off and disposed of. It was made by an Italian fellow ($), works amazingly well. New forks and rear shock were acquired (S lengths) and are on their way to Trailtricks for revalves all the way around. New rally dash, road book, etc are sitting on my bench New clutch slave ready for install Etc, etc Almost time to start painting
My rear swing arm is covered in silicon.....anyone know an easy way to get it off? It's got a date with some paint but can't show up like this. Thanks in advance
get a wax and grease remover from an auto paint store, should fix you up. Or do you mean actual silicone sealant applied to it, if so, all i got is a razor blade and wipin with the wax and grease remover
Are these the same tanks? And you just got busy with the spray can? I like the exhaust. Very cool. Custom header? Very nice. What are these? Probably been discussed 20x before but I can't recall seeing them before. Either way, looking fwd to seeing some pics installed
if it peels off in big pieces you're in luck the remainder should come off with alcohol, I hear Austrian chicks love alcohol This is gonna be cool, those tanks look the bomb man
Hey Deadly - I was getting worried that the tanks hadnt turned up yet, happy now that you have them in your hot little hands. Hope they fit in with the "grand" plan.... If Russian whores are that much fun - Im booking an "educational" tour just as soon as I finish a few more tanks.....
Re paint...YEP I have been painting it for a few years now. I get bored Re header...YEP Custom by Flanny and an Akron from an R1 Yammy Re tanks From Pete640 . Same price as a Safari tank but in my opinion a better option (weight distribution, esthetics and well I always felt this bike should have them to complete the rally look)
I see the rally tanks are already black, so that's obviously your scheme. But you had black at the beginning. Thought you get bored easily. Maybe a splash of color... so at least you can be spotted on the road at night? Can't wait to see those rally tanks on.
Adventure Rider is so much more fun to read when you imagine people talk like Sheldon on Big Bang Theory. Go on. Read the first post. You know you want to. I'm really looking forward to how this rally bike will come out. Always liked your work.
