The Honda XL1000V thread

You can find some remarks about Honda's big trail bike here, but I haven't found a thread for this superb Honda... So, here it is! And since it will come available in Canada next year, I guess that it will come to the US as well... Sooner or later...

PS: Don't buy the Original side bags as showen on the bike above... I had them on my '04 ABS, but they are crap. Go for the Hebco % Becker alu ones, they are just perfect!

the xlv1000

the bike has been confirmed to be available next year in canada. it will never make it to the USA . IT WILL BE A HUGE FLOP IN NORTH AMERICA ,SO BUY ONE NEXT YEAR, I AM. as for the bags honda is giving them away in europe with the 2008 varadero i hope they do the same but i will still order the new GOBI bags and engine bars. i have been waiting a long time for this bike and i think it will be here 2 years tops so get one while you can.

Hey North Rider, why do you think it would be a flop in North America?

Curiosity!

RE: The factory bags are the same bags the VFR 800 had...they were superb on my VFR. They never leaked, were rock solid, never broke, and had a lot of capacity. Now in an off road setting during a nap I'd say they wouldn't be very durable...but they are good bags.

On the VFR800i they are if you do < 3.000 miles per year on tarmac smooth like a Baby's behind. But on a big trail / adventure bike doing > 5.000 miles per year under all kinds of road- and weather conditions they are CRAP.

And because (you have written it correctly above) they are originally designed for a Sportstourer, the difference in alignment on the Varadero makes them utterly useless.

Can we go to Cananda and purchase the Honda Varadero 1000 and drive it back into the states without any problems? Will there be any promblems with our DMV?

If you could get it across the border, and I am not convinced it would be easy, you'd have no warranty at your friendly neighborhood Honda Dealer. If American Honda doesn't get a clue soon, I may be forced to look into this option more seriously. I know on the car side, dealers were bringing Canadian market vehicles over here a few years ago, for certain hot selling models. (Odysseys and CRVs) Those dealers then had to honor the warranty on thier own, without AHM support. This proved to be a costly proposition, so, this practice seems to have largely stopped.

I was told the paper work to get the vehicles imported wasn't a big issue for the dealers, but it may be more of a problem now? I also have heard from a Canadian Power Source dealer in Ontario that there aren't a lot of Varaderos to go around for this year, but MAYBE next year there will be more.

@ Crackers1,

What kind of tyres are under your bike? From a distance they look like TKC's, but I'm not sure...

Hi DLF

Sounds like you have it covered, but I spoke to my dealer yesterday. He doesn't think it will be a problem sell a Honda shop manual for an '08 Varadero. He'll let me know within a few days. Let me know.
