Hi, I'm Lobster. I'm not a Yooper, but I like pastys (please note these not the nipple coverings some strippers wear!). Also we take a few trips to ride the trails up der hey. I did fight off a pack of trolls by the bridge once though......

Not a resident, but I ride a lot up there and have a bunch of UP GPS tracks posted in GPS Central.

Yooper, are you joining us for this year's 1000 mile UP ride 11-15 June? Same deal as last year. Show up on the 11th, ride 12-15.

I saw your thread about this last year...you guys set quite a hectic pace!

Not sure if I will be able to join for the entire trip, but may be able to tag along for a day or two.

PS...I ride over 1,000 miles in 'da UP every year...of course, I have never ridden any where else!

Love the UP. I'll will be spending a lot of time up there this spring. About when can the trails be considered ridable?

Depends on your definition of "rideable"!

If you don't mind the occasional patch of snow and ice between the endless stretches of mud, then sometimes as early as late March. Usually though, things start to dry up enough for some pretty good riding in April. Still plenty of mud and maybe a bit of snow, but passable.

Best part about riding then is there are no bugs yet!

Yo

Can ex-yoopers check in too? Grew up by the lift bridge in Hancock so I guess I'm native Keewanean. Gotten too civilized to crash around on bikes and shoot at random in most of my old stomping grounds.

Can I check in to?

I plan on riding the length of the Ya to do the UP Eh! on my return from SHOT in May.

Provided the snow's off the roads by then. I promise to camp at least one night to ensure citizenship.

Guess we should start with a simple check in.

"Hi, I'm Yooper_DRZ and despite the name, I now ride a '06 KTM 640 Adventure. I'm located in Marquette, and also have a cabin over by Curtis."

Hey Yoopers! Way to go. You 51st staters at least deserve your own thread. I hope the south of the bridge livers, like me, can join in your rant on occasion.

Hey Cannonshot what is this 1000 mile UP trip in june that you speak of?

Hosted this ride last year: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258833

Said I would host it again this year (since all the planning is already done). I'll post something in Central the first part of March.

Maybe raised the IQ in both places when you moved?

The Fox Valley's a nice place, but better than the UP? Not in my book, and I've lived in both. To each his own, and if you don't want to be in da UP, stay out of this thread, why don't you?

Holy shit? I hope I didn't imply the UP was shitty...I'm just a fan of social culture..good food and entertainment. These things..(ok..the pasties are wonderful and I always bring many home with me) are not available in most of the UP...save for a few cities..mainly those with Universities (Marquette..I'd live in Marquette..so I'll eat the "Never") The Wilderness aspect is amazing and I do miss being able to go and have a swim after work in the summer. I think the nearest swimmable lake from Appleton is almost 30 miles and that is a bloody shame. But man...I've never been in a bar fight in the valley and I've lived here for 14 years...I'm not afraid of being in a bar fight..it just shows the mentality of A LOT of folks who grow up and remain in those parts...My whole family lives there...and some of the most wonderful people I've ever known still live there...I guess I just don't ever want to live where the world is still flat..
