BMW G650X Challenge Thread Index

Let's see if we can get the wealth of information, expertise, tips and suggestions compiled into one organized easy to access thread. If you have any links to add to the index thread, please add them here. If you have questions "how to" questions, add it to the existing XChallenge threadfest or start a new thread.

If you see a broken link, please PM me so I can investigate it further.

The aim is to gather all the relevant links here:

2 To avoid rear shock bladder from rubbing on inner mudguard:
Option 1: More clearance between mudguard and rear shock

3 Tail tidy: Tail section is detachable for hard enduro riding. There are a few after market tail tidies, some listed in the Mods section below, or you may want to fabricate your own mod, but cutting off most of the tail section.

I didn't know where to put this. I just installed a Moose shifter.
Part# 1602-0015. I bought it from Thumper Talk Store for $30. It shows:
YZ250F (06-08)
YZ 450 (06-08)
WR250F (03-08)
WR450F (03-08)
You have to remove the top footpeg mount bolt and loosen the lower to allow the peg to swing out of the way. Then it is just a matter of setting to fit your style and preference. It is a steel shifter w/folding tip. The hope is the shifter will bend before the shaft breaks. I will carry the stock as a spare on longer rides.

Eh? Shifter

Here are two posts on shifters that work on the X Challenge:

[quote=Bert Fox]I didn't know where to put this. I just installed a Moose shifter.
Part# 1602-0015. I bought it from Thumper Talk Store for $30. It shows:

And....

I confirmed this weekend:

A 99-06 MSR YZ250 shift lever will fit perfectly (PN 34-2148),

So, on the YZ250 shifter, is it the earlier, later or both versions that fit? Or are they the same part?

The 1999 through 2006 YZ250 (MSR#2148) shifter will bolt right on and the bends are almost identical.

Please be aware that it's aluminum. It looks super tough...So I'm not use about it being a better replacement for the BMW stock shifter.

But I have run theses MSR shifters for a number of years, and have bent them and then bent them back into position....but there's still the uncertainty of how the X650 shift shaft will hold up...

We'll see..

I managed to whack a log with my shifter, folded it completely in half & broke when I pulled it off the footpeg to get it to move at all. Replaced with a $23 steel cheapy for a WR...which came with a bolt made of plasticine...new bolt & its all on fine.

I'll get the part no when I get home.
