My ride report doing a 1000 in 24..

My solo adventure running an SS1000….
I had originally planed on taking my run in the middle of April, but a good friend of ours had a really bad motorcycle accident… a few days before my departure..
Well being a woman, I elected to wait. I decided on the last Thursday in May...2007
Talked it over with my husband… And he said go for it… I did ask him if he would like to run it with me… He declined as a friend was going to stay with us for a few days…
And well someone had to be at the farm to greet him…..
I packed a small gas can in the trunk… The night before … Don (Hubby) didn’t want me to be on the road over night, so a 1000 out and back wasn’t going to sit good with him…I looked the route over.. So I thought I would do a turn around … He agreed that was OK with him…. We had done so many high mileage days together, so long hours in the saddle wasn’t a problem for me…Plus I had done many runs to visit my folks alone 500 miles away... So the solitude wasn’t a problem…Just me my bike & the road… Yeah!!!
I just wanted to do it myself…. I did have a time frame I wanted to shoot for, other then the 1000 in 24 …. I was looking for 1000 in 15 …..
Needless to say I didn’t sleep well the night before… Kind of like the night before Christmas as a kid….Ok so I never grew up…
But that’s always normal for me..
I was up real early... But it was so foggy that morning I was forced to leave a little later then I wanted…. Oh well best laid plans… But it wasn’t that bad just made the other end a little later….. No biggy....
So from where we live, it was 14+ miles from my first fuel stop over the mountain and the first dated receipt…. Now it’s was getting close to 6:15… I told my honey I’ll call ya in a few hours … First gas stop was at 6:33 am…… I was off n running!!!!
The day turned out to be just great …. Lots of sun but not to hot out…. The next few stops went nice n smooth….
All is well then I see way up ahead.. STOPPED traffic!!! Oh crap!!!! Yuppers, was stopped for about 25 mins. A nasty truck accident …. The driver was killed… Hmmm... Maybe it was a good thing I left later then I wanted after all... My mind raced I could have been in the middle of a real bad wreck!!
Well back on the road….. Bike was running great…. For one that has 100k+ on it….
I was really enjoying this run till………. A white pick up truck threw a cup out of the window.. Ok no big deal…. But then they started throwing more trash out the window!!
Now it was becoming a little worrisome to me… As I felt they where trying to hurt me… In traffic! I used my CB and started talking to the truckers that where around me… They saw what was going on and wanted to help… Cool I thought…. Well they boxed the white truck in and I twisted the throttle and nailed it and was out of harms way in a flash….Dang I love the power of my bike… It was a good size hill that we all were pulling…. But a Valkyrie has a 1520 cc engine with 6 carburetors… And it ran that hill with out worries weaving thru traffic…
Sometimes it’s nice being a female… As I don’t think the truckers would have helped that fast if I was a guy…
All was good once again…. Made my turn around point in Jackson TN...The time was 1:35 ct …Was right on time too!!! Yeah!!! Called my Hubby to let him know I was on my way home…And doing great…
All was going well till I was in Nashville again… Another bad accident!! This time I sat for 54 minutes on the IS with the bike off… UGH…. I thought that this is going to hurt my time…
But I did hope no one got hurt in this long shut down.….. I did get to talk to this rider for a bit….

I took this photo right before we had come to a full stop…..
The rest of the afternoon and evening went great… Traffic was moving along well…
Talked to a few truckers on the CB, and one was empty and said get right be hind me and I’ll plow the road for you …. And man oh man did he …. Ok I know your not really suppose to draft but hey, he knew I was back there…And we hit triple digits YeeHaw !!!
Now that was fun while it lasted….. Then the hills started once again and I said my see yaws … I pulled out of the line and passed all the trucks…. My stops where still fast..
I would call Don as I was heading to a rest room.. Multi tasking …LOL…
I pulled into my last stop... Topped off the tank got my receipt.. Call my Honey and told him I was heading over the mountain….
My total time was 16h 50 min for 1026 miles…So with the 2 traffic accidents … I missed my personal time… Oh well…. But all in all it isn’t a bad time…To turn in..

I still have all my paper work… Funny I never turned it in… Why … I don’t know..
I guess cause I did it for ME…

I did get this cool shot .. So I did have fun doing my run..But hey .. As long as I'm on my Beast I'm always having FUN !! I love my Valks !!!!

Laugh Our ride to meet up with the VOAI

Our ride to meet up with a bunch of the ~~
Valkyrie Owners Association International Riders. ..

They had there reunion in Marlinton, West Virginia this year…
Marlinton was in our old stomping grounds so how could we not go ….

We left around 9 ish ..Stopped in White Sulphur Springs for dinner & a cup of coffee…
We took 219 to 92 to 39 and back to 219…
We didn’t want to hit Lewisburg as the WV State fair was on…
It was grand day for a mid day ride….

When we rolled into the Motel, all the other Valkyrie riders where out on rides of their own…

So we took the time to wipe the Dragons down a little...
Not something we do often..

Then we hit the pool to cool off.. We could hear the Dragons (Valkyries) rolling into the motel…

This was the first time I have seen full Givi luggage on a Valkyrie ..

We met up with a few friends and it off to supper…
A nice jaunt up to Slaty fork for food….

We had eaten there a long time ago…
Good food a little pricey …
Highbinder (Don) Had a Lamb & Quail

I had Grouper & scallops…

We partied in the evening a bunch more of our buddies showed up…

Saturday morning our buddy Wolf lead a group of 9 bikes up to Snowshoe

then to Cass RR…

Then it was off to Seneca Rocks for dinner @ The Porch restaurant..
Joe needs food !!!

Our friends have never been there … So we all ate with passing the binoculars around to look at the rock climbers..

After we ate it was off to Spruce Knob …

Wow they paved the road.. Cool.. It use to be dirt…

From this point on Highbinder took point and we cut thru the woods …
We took the group to Snowy Mountain road and Hardscrabble …

To the town we use to live Blue Grass… Then grabbed fuel in Monterey …
Chatting with one of the state LEO"S

Then took the group to down 84 to 39 We had to stop at the WV backbone a cool little rock up heave..

Then back to 219 we stopped to eat supper at a little place called Dora's good plain food ..
Then it was back to the motel for more partying !!

That is a cool shirt Highbinder has on ..

Heck they even had door prizes !! And I won a nice leather carry all… Cool!!

Sunday our buddies ate Breakfast with us at Dora's ..

We all parted ways….We had a great time and a good ride home..

Here's a link to many more photos..
Enjoy they all have little write ups with them...

Wow, you guys really have fun

How rewarding to see a fun couple out having great times on bikes!

So did you join in any of the games at the beach bash (that were free since you rode in on bikes)? Or did they not get a photo of you doing the limbo?

It's also very inspiring to see you helping so much with the camping - starting fires, setting up tents, and that kind of stuff

Thanks for the reports; looking forward to meeting you guys hopefully soon at BWDR.

Here is an RR from all the way back July 4 & 11, 07 !!
We had only lived in the area for a year or so..

This was out first time to Breaks...

July 4,07
We rode to the Ky & Va. Breaks Interstate park... A nice park , with a huge lodge, and places for enjoying....

They have a Grand Canyon...

It was a great view....Yuppers I did get yelled at by Highbinder...

But I did get this shot !!!

There is a train tunnel and the Big Sandy

How it all got started. And named..

WE even saw a Mountain Lizard...

It was a long walk back up from the viewing...

And like most parks they had a nice little museum

Ok I'll admit it I really dig Fossils

On the hike back we found a cabin I let 'Binder knock on the door....

Now to get to this place and back we did a lot of cool twisties !!!

This was strange.... This bridge just ended to no where.... From what we was told the state was going to join the two hollers and then just didn't put in a road.. Go figure....

Cud Zoo can be very cool looking..

We really had a nice ride .. It's fun to find new cool roads...That are just full of twisties....And just about in the back yard....Well almost....

Till next time...

July 11.07

We Rode to the New River Gorge....Took some of our favorite roads to get there.... This is in W.V....

I just love to take photos of certain trees... The tree in the fore ground is just cool

They sure built an elaborate board walk....

There was a whole lotta of steps..... But very cool....

A super neat bridge !!!!

This is the original bridge that went across the gorge.....LOL... I wouldn't want to jump off that one.. Hehehehe ;D

This is the famous Bridge Day Bridge... The one that the Co. Closes the road down and people Bungee jump and Hang glide off The railing They also fill the one side of the road with vendors.....You know crafts n such...

Driving on top of the bridge had some great views...I had to stand tall and hold the camera way up to get this...The railing is up their ~Just level with my head sitting in the saddle on the bike....

This Bush/Tree really was intriguing... The leaves are as big as me !!! And i don't know what it is.... And all my plant books are still packed away !!!!!

Now it's off to the Hawks nest for some dinner...

Part 2 ...

Ok we are now at the Hawks Nest S.P.
They had a very nice lodge ~Some what modern....
This is a lot of brick....

The Lodge had a nice Tram.... Nope didn't take a ride...

We ate in their restaurant... The prices where fair. Surprising...

Well getting ready to leave .. ....Looks almost Government~ish.. hehehehe

We then headed to The Mystery Hole...

Part 3

Ok this wasn't far from the Hawks nest so we are off to check it out.....
From what I know it's like the Oregon Vortex in Oregon state....
Found it on the site Roadside America.....A cool site to visit.....

The outside is well ~ that classic roadside America theme ~a little Corny

Now how many times have you seen this Werewolf ~at roadside places?

What does the small print say???

I though that was cute..... ::)

See what I can do with the Monkey(Ape)... We just had to do it....

The wording says it all.....

You are not allowed to take your camera in to the hole.... So we did the rule ...
It was a fun place it did put a smile on ones face and that's what it was all about...
The cost of the smile was $5 per person .. Hey it was worth it~ I was having a blast in the hole....... The person who built it did a wonderful job a real architect's mystery...
Then it was time to head home...

One of our few roads that we ride on that has NO curve on it for a few miles....
Our little rides from the 4th to that Sunday took us to...
Ky/Va.. Va.. W.V.....And a total miles of 1279 miles... Plus we went back home each night...

Till next time

Here's another one from 07...
I remember this trip it was just an overnight..
We both had a hankering for seafood..

Had a little craving for fresh sea food......
So we left the farm early Friday morning and headed to S.C....... And the beach... It was just for over night..

Here's a shot of Pilot Mt. in N.C.

We made a wrong turn... Yuppers I see where we are ..

The water was soooo cold..... But I had to go in...Water people are that way....

Looking for shells

Hahaha Don was looking for Mermaids.....

He thinks he found one...

Well your wondering if I ever got my sea food !!!! Yuppers the freshest you can get !!!!

This was a cool sand thingy....

Then we got up early Sat.morning...And headed home...Our last stop before getting home...

Oh yes one more cool thing TheBeast turned 99,000 on the trip~ Yeah!!!!!

Till next time...

Footnote.. That bike now has 157,000

I know it's a bit long... But it's mostly Photos..

A run to TX for the best BBQ Brisket…And The Gathering of Fools….
Or
The first big ride of the year after a a really bad winter ..

We headed out of VA. @ 630 am...Wed morning, Not the earliest but a good time..

I love early morning riding …

Our neighbors met up with us down the road….

It looked to be a grand day..
It was early evening when we made it to Hattiesburg, MS just about 700 miles ..
We all where getting hungry for supper, so we grabbed a bite then the rains came..
So we had already stopped why not just get a room for the night…We all agreed…

Thursday morning looked great… Bit windy but blue skies…

Timed it just right thru Baton Rouge … I couldn’t believe how full the Bayou was this time..

It really looked different then last year….
The winds really picked up by Winnie as we picked up 124/87 The Beach…
Heading to the Bolivar Free Ferry… I was really amazed just how much they have cleaned up ,and with the rebuilding progress..
That area was hit by Hurricane Ike…Total devastation …
They have come a long way since last year , really good progress they now have fuel …
We had a bit of a wait for the ferry about a half hour… Not to bad we just made it before rush hour..

I really get a kick from all the sea birds…

The Gulf and The Bay had a good deal of white caps..

The last year it was calm.. So this was a blast for me… Salt spray was great…

Just glad the Valks don’t get that all the time…

Ah made it to Friendswood TX… For the Gathering Of Fools BBQ….

Time to sit a talk about the ride to TX..

I found this little fella..

Then I saw this .. Hey I can reach the ground !!

Friday was hey lets check out downtown Galveston, and ride on the beach…

Our little group stopped at Benno's Seafood for dinner time..

I had the best Mudbugs.. I have ever ate…

They were so big even the claws had meat…

After that we all went to the beach…
Now watching big Valks go through a deep drifts of sand was a blast…

Most were game to get there bikes on the beach…

Nothing like a CatHerders on the Beach

After all that fun it was back to the gathering for Gumbo and drinks and tire kicking…

Saturday HotGlue had the cooker going early already…

Time to go check out Brazos Bend State Park to see some Gators..

Warning signs all over the place…

To bad these folks didn’t heed the warnings; they are now gator poo!!

Oh wow did we see Gators and a lot of them !!

Even saw some little RedEars(Turtles) Keeping away from the Gators..

They have some cool boardwalks too..

Very cool…I do recommend checking out the Park they have camping too..

Back to GOTF for Supper and the big shindig…

Here Have some...

This year the Charity was The Lions Club Kids Camp. If I can recall a total of $ 3,400 was raised…

Don's plate sure was Full..

My plate was SeaTrout and a side Plus some of the best Whiskey Psst it's home made

Sunday was just a hang out and relax, do laundry and pack up..
Did get to meet a fellow Inmate !

I think his name is Rick , But he does have this Motocampers.com site…

It was great that he could get away for the weekend..

Ok so we all stayed up kind of late…

No biggy, after all sleep is over rated..

Monday morning ...
Our Host woke up at 5 am to see us off…

It must have been a bit early for Mark ,He did a morning Jig for us ..

My Black Valk hit a milestone..On the way home..

It rolled over a 100k.. It's like having a NEW bike !

We hit a few light showers on Monday.. Nothing bad..
Even took this cool shop of 3 abreast..

We stopped for the night on the south side of Birmingham, AL..

On Tuesday morning it look like it was going to be nice..
But once we hit the road for about an hour the rains came and NEVER left..
That made the last 400+ miles in rain all the way….
It was a bit chilly had the Gerbings liner and gloves going ..
Ah heat …

It was a great week and a wonderful ride , even with the rain….
Here's a link to the rest of the weeks Photos...Enjoy...
The week of photos, many more
