no real mention of shit like a get home bag in the book


do people really carry shit like that every day

and if you do

I wanna know what is in it

and don't start in on the BOB - that whole concept is mostly silly and is just an excuse to buy tacticool bullshit

I'm about 3/4 through the book myself.

I have a GHB/BOB. It's called a hiking backpack and it's usually packed and in my truck. Shelter, clothing, water filtration, stove/cooking supplies and a week's[maybe 2] worth of food. The main purpose is for backpacking, but it's perfectly suited to be used as a GHB/BOB.

Of course, that does me no good if I'm moto commuting to work. Even so....all the contents go with me even if I do a short weekend moto trip. Im usually as prepared as one can be without being paranoid or over the top.

I went through a silly amount of survival training a long time ago in a land far far away and I realize a little bit off effort up front pays huge dividends on the back end

but reading this book made realize if I had to walk home from my office because a tornado took an overpass or some silly shit a suit, dress shoes and no carryable water would make for a long and seriously fucked up hike

I think I'll get a canteen, a few clif bars and an AK47 with a bayonet and call it good

I looked at some of the prep websites, an interesting topic on its own for a guy who has took a course on apocalyptic fiction in college, and there are some serious whackjobs on a lot of those sites

under what possible circumstance would any rational civilian need a Book of Eli machete, 10 days worth of lifeboat rations, 500 rounds of ammo in a backpack and a pinzgauer

I mean that sounds like fun and all, but really now

if some of those guys put as much effort into their 401K as they did planning out panic rooms they will never build and buying #10 cans of whole wheat they would be rich

but yeah, walking home 10 miles to my house from my office would suck monkey balls

maybe I'll throw an old pair of sneakers in the trunk next to the bayonet, tear gas canisters and anti-zombie grenades
