Own two thumpers?

So... wondering if anyone here owns two thumpers... if so what have you got?

How do you justify it?

I was thinking of replacing my XR650L with a KLR650 or G650GS but I decided instead to just buy the G650GS in addition to the XR. Not sure that this makes much sense since they're similar in so many ways in the grand scheme of things but I really don't want to beat up the BMW off road and when I thought about what bike I would want in addition to the XRL, dirt road capability and being cheap (to buy, fuel and maintain) were at the top of my list... thus the G650GS.

no need to justify it

if you like both, have both. if the wife complains, trade her in for a newer model or learn to ignore her.

This.
Anything less is not going to work.
Although if I had only two thumpers only one would be a 650, the other about maybe 250 or so.

And I have my eye on a ktm 200 xc because I can't resist the Orange coolaid. No need to justify having more than one thumper. Each serves a purpose.

For several years I owned these three;
02 XR650R
03 KLR650
99 XR250R

Justification was the XR650R needed for Baja and semi long distance adventure rides with some rough sections.

The KLR650 was for easy adventure touring and local twisty road rides.

XR250R was pure dirt, haul bike to trail head.

Have since replaced with these three, only one thumper;
09 DR650
06 DL1000
04 KDX220

Don't really need any justification. At the time I just wanted all three but my idea of perfect stable is constantly changing.

just me but,
i'm using my one dr650 in a very wide range of settings.
except for hardcore singletrack and wide open paved roads, this 1 bike handles alot. i've run down the interstate keeping with traffic and gone over engineer pass fully loaded with gear on the same trip.

08 KLR
08 WR250R

Two different thumpers for different riding. Thinking about selling the KLR for a te630 someday.

I just bought a used DR650 as my first dual sport, can see another machine on the plate in the near future. I commute 85 miles a day and with diesel at $4 a gallon, the pickup is painful! I can see setting the DR up with 90/10 tires and using it for commuting, and adding a WR250R for a play bike to ride to the woods.

As to selling the wife on the idea...they are both blue...if one more happened to show up and she stays out of the shop and never sees both at the same time, she'd never know. Works with the gun collection...
