Yep

Check Colombia, especially Medellin before settling for Ecuador.I spent 10 years in Ecuador.
Now 4 years into Colombia and wild horses would not drag me back to Ecuador!!!

I didn't stop there on my way south but the location seems ideal. You're close to Quito and can ride to Colombia or Peru without too much difficulty.

Cuenca is phenomenal! In my ride south I marked that and Boquete, Panama as two retirement destinations to seriously consider.

Reading this from Boquete as we speak. I'll make a pass through Cuenca in Nov. No helpful info here.

Cuenca was cold and rainy when I was there but I think it has the cleanest centro I've seen in Latin America. They have some pretty serious cleaning crews going through town in the mornings. They must really want the gringos to move there.

we have some friends in cuneca now,and they love it there.the size of the city puts us off,but they say it"lives"like a much smaller town.we will visit them, and then on to conacachi.

I would be more than happy to help you with some nice routes and motorcycle rides while you visit here. Whether or not you rent a bike from us! (If you do rent a bike from us though I can probably take care of your dogs - I have two already and they have learned to ride a scooter everyday with me through Quito traffic!)

Ecuador is a great place to be and to live - and if you have a motorcycle here, it is almost heaven - with so much diversity in the climates and geology - there are very few places in the world where you can see so much change in landscape in so few miles of riding.

Feel free to contact me - I would love to help any rider out with the task of getting settled here!
