DIY Color change using 3M Car wrapping Vinyl
After two years of riding my blue 2006 DL650 I decided to change its color into white mat. I've found great alternative for painting: 3M Carwrap Vinyl. After few hour I've found shop in Poland selling this stuff. I bought piece 2m x 1,5m and started my work.
First I had to deliver vinyl to my friends garage. It wasn't easy but Vee can also be used as truck :Here are some photos before wrapping: Tools that I needed: Step 1. Remove all fairings, remove all stickers and clean fairing surface. Step 2. Cut vinyl about 10cm more than fairing. Heat it with heating gun and wrap. ![]() Step 3. Stick new stickers. I decided to buy stickers with my individual project: 2011 DL650 White with aditional logo "Adventure" Step 4. Assembly all fairings. Efects: Orange turn signals weren't looking good on white Vee so I replaced them with white. Everything took about 14 hours. I hope you like it. Vinyl can be removed in 15min without any damage for paint. So next year when white will be boring for me I can change it in deep black mat, or Military green or just have blue Vee again.
Set of stickers costed about 160PLN -> 40euro -> $55 |

Very nice job! Looks fantastic!!!
I used the clear film to protect the usual wear-areas on my frame and engine covers. Never thought about the colored stuff to change the color of the bike. Great idea you had there...

Good job Paul
You know that wrap is also a good scuff protector when testing the mounted knobbies.

Did you mist the surface with water before putting the wrap on and then squegie water out?
I am amazed you streched the wrap around the tank like that. I have a fairing that could use taht treatment. How do you think it would stick over fairly deep but smoothed out scratches?

here's an idea, can you get the material printed a solid color to match the bikes color?
