SAS Removal, Help

Ok Orange Crush,

I need some help. Thanks in advance.

07 990, 16000 miles. Just took the SAS and the canisters off following the H.O.W. instructions. Bike will not start, FI light is on. Any advice would be a great help before I tear back into it to figure out where I may have gone wrong. Thanks

Sounds like something left unplugged. Is the FI light on steady, or blinking a code?

The light is solid.

1. can you hear the fuel pump cycle when the ECU does its POST (you see the tach needle swing through)?

Yes, the pump cycles and tach swings, but it will not crank. It just keeps cycling through the start up procedure (tach keeps cycling)

2. did you terminate the SAS system plugs with resistors or just leave them unplugged or are they still plugged into the electro-valves?

We plugged the SAS system plugs with 22,000 resistors just like in the H.O.W.

Did you do the 22k ohm resistor thing x2? (just double checking, this part is 990 specific)

typically will not cause a "non start", but will throw FI codes unless the SAS is disabled in the ECU

Electrical problem somewhere. This may sound stupid, but I had a no-start after my SAS-ectomy, which was a low battery. Charge it up for a day and try again. If that's not it, you get to go back and undo your corrections, step by step, and hit the starter button after every step.
I think a connector is unplugged, and not one of the ones you were working on.

Yep that what it sounds like to me too. I will charge the battery, and recheck all of the connections. Thanks for tips fellas.

Got it started tonight. Been so friggin busy with work, etc. Turns out it was the battery, I have had it on a battery charger since Tuesday. Fired right up first try. Thanks for the suggestions.

Fargin bike!

Needing some insight again. Got the bike running, was running fine, after about 60 or 70 miles things go haywire. Can only twist half throttle, then she cuts out and spits and sputters. We decided it must be the fuel pump, installed this weekend. Ran great, made an improvement, but after 70 miles back to 1/2 throttle madness.

What do you all think, any advice, or lessons from you all would be greatly appreciated

That is a negative on the FI light.

Took it apart to check connections, again. Found a pinched fuel tank vent hose. Fixed that. Ran it 20 miles today, seems to be running fine for the time being.

Funny how Gremlins work! Will keep you posted. Hopefully this will be the last post on this project. Thanks 1911fan
