While I appreciate the effort to try something different, I can't help but hope this abominable effort goes stillborn.

Like you, I find it ugly. A Batmobile for the race track.

I can't really even pinpoint why I dislike it so much. It just looks so wrong.

It's a four-wheel car with a very narrow track. At one time it was posited as a possible platform for the Indy Car series. Indy Car decided against it (rightly, IMHO). This year the Delta Wing will be entered in an experimental class of one at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

I understand why people react negatively to it but I'm curious to see how well it performs. It's being built and campaigned by some capable people.

Ive seen this car in person and was not impressed because it is a steel frame construction and not an impressive one at that. it didnt have a power source when I saw it and when I asked about that I was told they were considering a motorcycle engine. they were still gathering sponsorship at the time.

I believe it to be more of a promotional deal/attention seeker than anything.

The car you saw was almost certainly a design mock up for aero testing and press release photos. The racecar has a carbon fiber tub, with the engine and rear suspension attached via steel trellis. The engine is a purpose-built Nissan 1.6L, direct-injected, turbocharged, four-cylinder.

Can't find any large images at the moment . . .
