78 goldwing questions

had a death in the family, a 78 goldwing, partially dismantled, will be finding it's way into my garage. I've got enough work with old beemers, don't really need this thing. I know it's tough to value without pics. I don't know if the engine will even turn over. probably be best for parts. any ideas what this thing might be worth. I'd like to get a couple bucks for the deceased's wife to help with her bills.
any info or contacts for goldwing gurus would be really appreciated.

Naked Goldwing

The "Naked Goldwing Club" might be of some help.

Easy to join and you can list the bike on their sight.

I recently acquired a nice running, low mile, 1977 Naked Goldwing and have been doing some homework.
I traded a 1982 BMW R65 worth probably $1600.00 - $1800.00 for the Wing.
From what I've found the prices for derelict Goldwings are about a "dime-a-dozen".
I'm finding complete rough bikes for $500.00 and less on Craigslist. "Basket / box cases" are even cheaper.
That was one positive reason for buying one, is that parts are plentiful and cheap.
Honda made a shit load of them so they are everywhere.
If you could assemble the bike and have it running you'll be better off.
Selling it as a hulk might be a give a way.
EBay Early Goldwings are going from $1500.00 - $4000.00 depending on mileage and condition.
A couple different non running, complete, clean looking ones, didn't bring their $1500.00 reserve last week.

They say it takes a weekends work, just to pull the engine on these beasts, and then the fun begins!

have you ever pulled the trans and motor on a guzzi?????!!!!

From what I hear, on a Guzzi, it's worth it.
Actually, I'm a Honda fan, I own two now and bought one of the first Wings on the east coast in 1975. Sold it a year later. I prefer the parallel twins. And yes, I am an old turd!

This 1977 Wing was listed for $2500.00 and the seller didn't have any takers.
He ended up trading it to me for a 82 R65 BMW. I was only into the R65 for $1600.00.
The R65 was too small for what my riding needs currantly are.


The bike has 40k miles and was completely refurbished (frame up) 4 years ago.
After receiving it I found that it has a 1978 engine.
I had never ridden a Goldwing before and am quite "enamored" by the bike.
I added the windscreen, soft bags and a tank rack to hold my tank bag.

I've always had a soft spot for the Goldwing since it was introduced in the mid-'70's, I guess since I regard it as what the next step in BMW Boxer evolution should have been,not Bricks or Oilies.

If I ever have the time, $$ and inclination for another motorcycle it would likely be a 4-cylinder, non-Barcalounger Goldwing. And if I ever go the sidecar route I think my prime choice for tug would be a 'Wing.

Just one of the "run of the mill" National Cycle Plexistar 2.
Used to be cheap but now they're asking $169.00 for them.
I also use this one on my BMW sidecar rig. I had another set of mounts.
Takes 10 minutes to swap them out.
