BreckTrek History
When I moved here (Woodland Park) in 2007 the old timers told me you could ride from here to Breckenridge without a plate. That's what began this whole thing. It took two seasons to put the route together. Most of my exploration time was spent trying to find a ford across the South Platte River.
![]() There is no longer a legal water crossing, primarily due to trail closures following the Hayman fire. This means we must cross the S. Platte at Lake George. This also means we are forced onto asphalt at these points and a license plate is required. ![]() 2009 2009 was the first year of the ride. We started in Monument, rode to Breck, camped for the night, and rode back the next day. The ride home was supposed to be easy, but everyone wanted more technical trails so we ended up modifying the route for more of a challenge. We had ten total riders, with a main group of 5 (Ryan, Colin, Randy, Jeff, and myself) ![]() BreckTrek 2009 thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=476935 2010 In 2010 we tried it as a one-day ride, this made a the ride a serious distance challenge. It was very popular. We started with 16 riders at the beginning of the day. At the top of Georgia Pass we had 20 riders. And I think we had 9 remaining at the end of the day. We pulled off the trail not-too-long after dark. ![]() Breck Trek 2010 Teaser from Ryan Smith on Vimeo. BreckTrek 2010 thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=539376 Ride reports and pictures start about here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...3#post13253423 2011 ![]() 2011 was supposed to be almost the same as 2010, but with some harder sections like 735, technical singletrack. ![]() Unfortunately we had a couple late winter storms and we couldn't get over either Georgia or Boreas Pass into Breckenridge, so our trip ended in Jefferson (this won't be a problem this year). ![]() 16 riders started, 8 finished. ![]() I'm still waiting for someone to attempt BreckTrek on a KLR, and it would be cool to see someone finish it on a 950 Adventure (there was one attempt, but his shift lever broke).

No Paul I've moved on. Probably partially because of all the fun I had on Brektrek. I realized I liked trails more than anything else, sold the 640 and got a 530. |

Airvent is coming all the way from Oxford Connecticut just for this ride. That's how over the top awesome BreckTrek is.
Alex, after your 1500-miles-in-one-day-on-a-DR350 trip last year, the 220 miles of BreckTrek will be a cake walk.

Hmmmmmmmm, indeed, Ryan! Where would the tough parts be for a 950? That would sure be a ride to remember!

There aren't any technical obstacles on the route (735 is out this year). The whoops would probably be the toughest part. Roots and ruts won't help either, but it's not like you're going to run into an obstacle that you can't get the bike through. It's just a matter of whether you have the energy to pilot the bike over roots and whoops all day. I think you could handle it, Ron. Are you going to be in the area in June?
