Yet another "what car to buy" thread...

So here's the parameters: three row seating but no minivans. Would prefer 4WD/AWD and something that could tow at least a small trailer. Must be able to find a rust-free example for under $15,000, preferably closer to $10,000. Obviously better gas mileage is...well, better.

We love our Durango, but it was just a $5k beater when we bought it. Now that the AC is TU, the power steering leaks like a sieve, the tires are bald, and the body is slowly rotting away, the heater coil springing a leak puts it squarely into the "more trouble than it's worth" category for me. Oh yeah, by the way, anyone in the market for a Durango?

There's a fairly high-mile '09 Chevy Traverse nearby at the top of the price range. The Dodge Journey looks like it might fit the bill, but I don't know if they've been out long enough to have much used inventory. Anyone have experience with either of those? Any other suggestions?

Pilots and highlanders have been three-row for a while.

My dad recently bought a (well) used Pilot and it has been a solid vehicle.

Good to know, I'll add them to the list.

If you are looking at the Traverse make sure you check out the Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia. Same basic vehicle and those have been out since 07 so you might be able to find one in your range.
The GMC was one of the most comfortable vehicles I have ever ridden in tho the FWD version was horrible in the snow. Go with the AWD version for sure on it.

Also the Mazda CX7 has an optional 3rd row and the CX9 comes with one standard I believe.

Jeep Commander maybe? Tho that's not the best MPG solution

Thanks for the suggestions Jimmy! Looks like the Volvo is out of the budget though, and I'm finding some online rumbling about a dodgy cam chain in the Traverse.

Know anything about the Hyundai Veracruz?

Everybody in this part of town seems to have gigantic cars. Those mid-size SUV's just won't be big enough.

No problem :)

The Veracruz seems to get pretty good marks from MSN and Edmunds

Don't have any personal experience with them so I really can't give an opinion.

I have bragged about the ford freestyle before and will do it again...

turausX Or freestyle.. Ford duratic/Volvo AWD and a CVT my ex wife consistently gets low 20 around town..
it is big roomy and nice to drive .. with the CVT you can only tow 1200 pounds. If you get the 5 speed auto you can tow 2000+ ...

Ps they are getting cheap..

We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating; the GS handles in ways a two-story building was never meant to.

Taking collections for Faye Butler Training please spare some change.
