Touring zuma 125

Howdo fellow Riders, I picked up a 2012 Zuma 125 earlier this year and love it. In the process of setting it up for some touring, done the following....

1) KOSO Mirrors
2) 12V Blue Sea Power Outlet
3) Pelican 1430 Pannier Cases
4) Dual Head Light Mod
5) Ram Mount Phone Holder

Ordering windshield today to see if that help stablize cruising speed as well as rider comfort. Also thinking of adding rear rack case, probably go with Pelican 1500 or 1550, should have 70L+ storage for all the camping gear. I typically hammock camp so most of the kit is fairly small but it adds up.

Windscreen - Don't put it on! You will love the zuma with the windscreen, but it really spoils the "butch" look of the zuma and makes it look like a vespa

or some other sissy scooter. My screen was on when I bought my zuma and while I hated the look it gave the scoot I love the function. It really serves its purpose well. It protects me better than my FJR or my current FLHT with batwing fairing. Of course I am not going faster than 55 mph either. I took it off one time for a short ride and couldn't stand the windblast, it was back on in no time! A lot of people complain about it shaking, but it is well worth it in my opinion. I am talking about the Yamaha shield.

Cool! I like to see people be touring on small scoots! The scooter can be a fun Dual Sport type bike! When my Shadow was down, I did some cool adventure riding on my Elite 150. It was fun, but had street tires so the mud and offroading was fun but slippery! It ain't made for it, but thats part of the fun!

I ain't rode my Elite for quite a while. The key is broken and I'm to tired. Been on the Shadow lately. But I want to throw some mud tires on the Elite and have more fun!

The Zuma shall do better for that kind of riding too. Touring also can be fun on a 125. Just avoid high speed roads when possible. Its all about the fun, backcountry roads and scenic rides.

The winchshield is nice to have. But IMO not entirelly necessary for a smaller CC bike, as you won't be doing a lot of Interstate. But it's still reduce fatituge on those longer rides which is nice.

Pics added to original post.... Loaded tested locally to around fifteen pounds, cases have slight vibration which is to be expected, may add diagonal support to lower bolt at rear of case if i nned more support...

Heading north this weekend 450-500 miles three days, bike, road, & hammock....

Awesome mini-touring rig!

I can't imagine a longer trip with that would be anything but ADV bliss! I'm jealous...

Yes - by the looks of it, those two cantilevered supports per side would flex up and down a fair amount (especially loaded), and may be prone to cracking/failure. It appears that a simple diagonal support like you mention, might bolt up to that forward-most rear rack bolt? That'd probably stiffen (triangulate) it up pretty well, I'd think.

SR1355, thats an awesome looking rig. Something tells me ur young. I am near 50 and the zuma suspension and seat would do me in on a 400 mile trip, but I sure enjoy mine on my 20 mile commute!

I'm only young at heart.... Mid 40's but in pretty good shape... I've done a 150 run and felt pretty good after that so we will see how this weekend goes....

Actually pretty stiff right now just vibration on bumps, used 1/8x1 steel and went through several designs for rear mount but I'm still thinking of adding third support. This weekend is shake down run for much longer ride...

Go with the pelican 1500 as a top box. Perfect size IMHO. I used mine on my klr now on my Sv and it will go on my next bike.

I will check that out, thanks for the input.... Hitting the road, 450+ this weekend, looks like rain this morning but you can't choose the weather on road trip....

Hi sr1355 i love the look of your zuma, i have a bws 125(same except for headlights) and wonder if you could please post a link for the pelican 1430's and the mounts? Were they standard mounts?also the mirrors what is the model no?

Very cool. Now all you need is a top case. A scooter than gets 70mpg and has a ton of storage, whats not to like!
