Talking Growing Adventures

The GS turned 3 yrs old this month and 60,000 on the clocks just yesterday so I thought I would celebrate both by sharing some of the adventures with you like minded lot. Not long after the GS joined the stable I adopted a G650 Xchallenge as well and so the adventure grew along with the tool shed.
There is no set time line or order to this collection accept that it all took place within the last three years unless otherwise stated.

I hope you all enjoy.

Cheers,
Dave

My wife loves shooting from the saddle and captured this while we rolled through a tunnel in Wellington.

A sweet camping spot at Fletcher Bay, Coromandel Peninsula.

Growing Adventures

Stopping to smell the proverbial roses with my mate Rene. French Pass, Marlborough Sounds.

Hot day, cold beer. The Helena Bay Cafe & Gallery has to be one of the best for both food and art. And the location is superb. Nestled into the bush about a half hour ride north of Russell, Helena Bay.

A day out riding the back roads of Central Otago. This was somewhere near Tapanui.

When going out on Ninety Mile Beach in the Far North, be prepared.

Sand dune surfing in full moto gear is not recommended unless you like sand in your socks.
Great Sand Dunes, Far North.

The real adventure begins when... Well this adventure included getting home in one piece. Besides the busted pannier and sub-frame, I still made it out of the Taranaki bush. Covered head to toe in mud, this way a good day and I still had a smile on the dial. One thing I have learned along the way is that less is more. I carry much less gear now. Much less.

The right place at the right time. Cape Egmont ( West Cape ) looking toward Mt Taranaki. The surf is about 30 meters behinds me. This is the kind of day made for motorcycle tours.

Ohau Stream, Kaikoura Coast.

These GS machines just love getting dirty. The Pukemanu Adventure Ride in Martinborough is only host about every five years. The route was not difficult but when it rain for 10 hours continuous leading up to the 7am start then things can get a little interesting. Can you see the smile on my face. Flat exhausted and hungry but still happy as Larry.

Tree weeks and nearly 3000ks on the go and I get a flat only 60 from returning home. I learned my lesson on Ninety Mile Beach and this time I was carrying all the right tools to make the repairs. It's all part of the adventure.

While tooling around Mount Ruapahu we decided to take a closer look at the snow situation. It was the end of the season so we didn't expect much. At least the access road was clear and dry. The dude in the pic is my riding buddy Rene van Irsel.

At the end of a very winding and twisting road is a place that looks like this. Russell, Bay of Islands

Rene with his BIG catch of the day, John Dory. When touring around NZ always carry a bit of fishing gear.

The best coastal roads around New Zealand are not paved. OK, maybe I'm a bit GS biased, but it's true.

Couldn't agree more Dave
And the tracks of the Marlborough Sounds are simply stunning
