In need of assistance...
So, I'm camping near Camden AL, Elm Bluff to be specific, and my 950 has lost 6th gear due to shifting issues. Since I already had it geared down to better deal with my load off-road, this equates to a 60mph top speed.
![]() A little backstory- I'm on a extended 4 corners tour, hitting all the major corners of our fine country with a few detours along the way. I just visited the Barber museum, and am now heading for New Orleans. I sold everything to make this happen, been on the road since early June and no, I haven't started a RR/blog. ![]() Yesterday, shifting got bit funky, and resulted in a loss of 6th gear. I'm hoping it's the mechanism under the cover behind the clutch, and not related to the drum or forks, as that would require splitting the cases. I'm a mechanic by trade, so the actual work isn't all that big of a deal, but I need a couple things along the way. So, I need a place to work and live to see this repair through. My needs are simple- a flat spot to throw up the tent and access to a bathroom covers the living arrangements and a flat clean spot to work. Inside would be nice for that part, since it's possible this will require case splitting. I'll need a couple "special" tools too, but that's a secondary bridge to cross. A 46mm socket for the crank nut and a clutch basket holder are the only things I can think of that are not usually in a set of tools at home. I have a couple of the other special tools with me. If (more like when) parts are required I should be able to order stuff online, but there will be time involved. We are after all talking about a KTM here. Even if I specify rush shipping and all that, they seem to work at a speed that glaciers would be jealous of when it comes to parts orders. So anyone want to host a dirty hippie from California for a week to ten days (worst case-scenario, best case being a day or two)? I cook, clean, fix things and am generally a quiet, appreciative guest. ![]() A reply here pushes to my phone, but reception isn't the greatest at the campground (I'm at a Hardee's in Camden right now) so I might not be able to respond until later, or you can try calling or texting at 707 367 3110.

I am in Clayton GA which is the opposite direction from you... but have shop space, and a place to stay. Nannohiccup is in Mobile and may have some more local knowledge of someone that can help that is closer. I will shoot him a PM with a link to this thread.

I'm way up in Nashville, but have a spare room and a garage. KTM dealer is about 7 miles away from my door.
Hoping someone chimes in that is a better fit for you. |

You would get better results if you ask a mod to change your thread name to reflect the area you are in.... You have cast a really wide net.
Good luck, sounds like a fun trip!

Just got a heads up on this, PM sent.
Shop space and 950 factory special tool board available. Your about 4 hours south of us, if the bike had been cooperative and took a shit at Barber you would have been less than an hour away!

Thanks to Advmax I'm heading north to his place. Having the tools to take the beast apart is a compelling argument to head back north.
I'll update when I can...

Keep us posted, ready to do a trailer save if needed. I gave sstewart a heads up that you're headed this way.
Just to keep the culture shock from all us hillbillies as low as possible there will be another inmate originally from California here this evening as well to translate and offer support.

Well, after my first evening at the infamous Crab Shack, I have survived relatively unscathed. It was a quiet evening, with AdvMax, Knighthawk and I in attendance. A bit of "cultural exchanging" went on
![]() General theory is the "shift coupler" has either come loose from the shift drum or is losing a pin or two, so hopefully no case splitting will be required. Details to follow...after breakfast.

No doubt a huge thank you to sstewart and AdvMax.
And it's not the "culture shock" per se, it's the damn accents that get me. Parts will be @ KTM World on Friday afternoon, an hour or so away. Expect combustion by Saturday evening, Sun AM at the latest. ![]() Thanks for all the well wishes and support from the asylum as well!
