I was under the impression that any TDI is the greatest fucking car ever.

It's a great car with an even better engine. Go for it, you'll like it.

It is for the wife. She drives a 328 xi (company car) and she is changing jobs. As we will pay the bill I was looking for a less expensive car.
For 25K you get a lot of it ....

The newer ones only really pay off if you do a LOT of miles per year. A friend has a sedan and he puts almost 20k per year for work and gets reimbursed. He's way ahead on reimbursement.
We own an 03 wagon and love it, but don't think I'd spring for a third TDI at present usage. We don't drive nearly as much as we used to (not even 10k the past 12 months) so the maintenance wouldn't pay for the engine upcharge. Bottom line: if you drive a LOT of miles per year, it'll probably save you money over the long run.

We have an 09, runs like a bat outa hell, had to keep the wife from trying to go over 105 on a trip last summer.
I think the only problem we've had in 60K+ miles was some sensor in the auto trans that went TU. It was a recall fix IIRC and was taken care of by the dealer.

I had the same issue on my 09. Fixed for free. I think I'll stick with the TDI's. Love the torque. No more gas cars for me.
