dnepr hack shock replacement ??

am in the process of mounting a 1980's dnepr hack up to my Vstrom.. is it safe for me to assume that the dnepr shock could be replaced with a better shock?? if so.. any reccomendation will be appreciated.. thanks

Just rebuild it using modern fork oil and new seals. Rebuild kits are readily available on eBay. http://www.russianiron.com/service_ur_ural_shocks.htm
