What to do to Faded Plastics ?
Good morning.
Any suggestions as to a PROVEN product to use on Faded Plastics ? I have a number of perfect fenders and panels that could be brought back to SHINE with a proven product out on the market. Any suggestions ? Thank you, TOMAS. |

I've been impressed with this stuff:
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...-Detailer.aspx Just spray it and let it soak in for an hour or so. Repeat on areas that have soaked it all in. Makes cleanup easier too. |

303 aerospace protectant. Similar to ArmorAll but WAY better.
Sure makes an old kayak look like new. Heirhead |

I second the 303 aerospace protectant. Its awesome on any plastic that is going to spend some time out in the sun.

May depend how much faded. Holy cripes do I have something here to practice on.25 years of fading.
And have already practiced but not with 303, looked a couple weeks back and price was a little rich for me. Maybe next time....! But sure tried the others....Armor All, Mothers etc....etc nothing worked. In the meantime I tried another trick I may just have learned here. Brake fluid. Now that's DOT4. Apparently the DOT5 is better for that, has sillicone in it but again local price was a little too much if just for practices.Maybe next time....!Anyway you can see where I removed the Honda decal and then tried Dot4 under. May need a little wetsanding at the appropriate grit(s) lubed with brake fluid. This is just a quick buffing with a dirty rag and older brake fluid. Been like that for over a year so seems to work. Maybe someday I'll finish it, that is put more than 5 minutes of efforts into it. ![]() Sure doesn't look like the Glycol ate the plastics. Never tought it would but......I have another tank for that bike.

Details on heat gun, please. Or is it obvious? The color just comes back?

Forward 2-3 years down the line and the fade is back. Soft-scrub just didn't seem to be getting it now. So out comes the heat gun and more determination and ta-da ! This time I got results. What I did was work on a small area with the gun on low , never stop moving the flow, but stay in a small area until you see the surface change. The oils will rise to the top and shine then keep moving the gun to spread this effect over the whole area.It takes about 20-25 minutes to do a front fender. As the plastic cools some of the shine goes away but, you can get most of it back with a good waxing. The next time I went riding with my usual crew a couple of them asked if I'd gotten new plastic. The treatment is still holding up after a year.
