2730 error message "check antenna"
I have a 2 year old 2730. The gps functions perfectly but, when I try to use the xm radio I get a message saying "check antenna" It seems to be connected just fine. One of my riding buddies has a new unit with xm. I tried to use his antenna (hockey puck) with the same resulting error message. Any suggestions?

Join the club. The little pins in the USB cable from the hockey puck tend to "wear out" and not make proper contact. The only solution I have found is to get a new USB cable with the same size plug, cut and solder onto the hockey puck.
Or pay Garmin ~$110 to fix it. |

Yeah, I'm about to have to try this with my antenna and splicing a new cable. It bit the dust a while back and now has either a short in the USB cable or the plug is just plain worn out. Either way, it shows "check antenna" when connected to 3 different GPS's. 376c, 478, or 2820.
I did notice before mine went totally tits up, the antenna started rebooting itself at random intervals with greater frequency. I guess that was the precursor. Then I started getting a message here and there about checking the ant, but it would still work. now I'm just plain lucky if I actually get it to work. I know my USB plug on the GPS is still fine, because it still talks to my PC when connected. It sounds like the OP's might actually be the USB plug on the GPS if it did it with 2 different antenna's.
