Questions about emailing tracks

Is being able to make "tracks" on the GPS necessary to read someone else's .gpx file of OHV trails that I've down loaded? The GPS model in question is a garmin 2730 if that helps.

Be more specific.

You used Mapsource to download Tracks, Waypooints, and/or Routes to a 2730 or did you download a .gpx file direct to the 2730 memory?

I don't think the 2730 has track features. If you want to download, see, and follow tracks get a hand held or chart plotter (60/76/x76).

If you have loaded Mapsource on your computer, you can read the gpx file containing the tracks.

Loading them and following them on a 2730 is another story. The 2730 is Street Pilot, not a GPSMAP unit like the 60's, 276/376/378/478, etc. It's not impossible to do with the SP series, but it is a lot more difficult.

Another option is you can load the GPX files into Google Earth.
Then you can edit them and even delete the parts of the track that was not intended to be part of your original path you wanted to share.
The save it as a .kml file and use GPSBabel to convert back to GPX or to Garmin GDB or whatever relevant GPS device you happen to have.
