Garmin 296 and T4A (Tracks4 Africa)
Hello all,
This probably isnt the best location for this post, but........... I'm going on holiday in Southern Africa in Sept/Oct. I'm told that maps for my magellan Explorist XL are limited, and that mapping for Garmin GPS is far superior. So I'm looking at taking my aviation GPS, a Garmin 296. The GPS is currently loaded with jeppeson Aviation mapping, which I dont want to lose. The GPS has a slot for a Garmin Data Card. Whats the story if I want to load maps from a CD called T4A (Tracks 4 Africa)? I know that Ive got to buy a Mapsource product to have the program on my PC as the Garmin Way point manager does help load the maps. Can I just use my PC to load the Maps from the CD to a Data card and the GPS will work perfectly with out compromising my aviation mapping? As you van tell I'm a bit of a philistine when it comes to anything beyond basic GPS knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreicated. |

Your Jeppesen data base in in the internal memory of the GPS.
You will need to purchase a Garmin format data card to load mapping. Loading mapping will not effect other data on the GPS . |

Many thanks Burnie. I'll have to drop down and see you at Arncliffe with regards to a data card and other info when I'm back home.
