Garmin 296 and T4A (Tracks4 Africa)

Hello all,

This probably isnt the best location for this post, but...........

I'm going on holiday in Southern Africa in Sept/Oct. I'm told that maps for my magellan Explorist XL are limited, and that mapping for Garmin GPS is far superior. So I'm looking at taking my aviation GPS, a Garmin 296. The GPS is currently loaded with jeppeson Aviation mapping, which I dont want to lose. The GPS has a slot for a Garmin Data Card. Whats the story if I want to load maps from a CD called T4A (Tracks 4 Africa)? I know that Ive got to buy a Mapsource product to have the program on my PC as the Garmin Way point manager does help load the maps. Can I just use my PC to load the Maps from the CD to a Data card and the GPS will work perfectly with out compromising my aviation mapping?

As you van tell I'm a bit of a philistine when it comes to anything beyond basic GPS knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Your Jeppesen data base in in the internal memory of the GPS.

You will need to purchase a Garmin format data card to load mapping.
Loading mapping will not effect other data on the GPS
.
