Put a flow control valve to limit the flow rate to the "gear box". Heat will be minimal.

Cylinder speed formula:

S = 231*Q / A

S=cylinder speed (inches per minute)
Q=flow rate (gallons per minute)
A=Area in sq inches

Or

S*A / 231 = Q__________________

thank you so much, I came up with what these cylinders would need and now my total Q would be about 7.4, so I've decided to abandon the scavenging off of the p/s pump and am mounting a 12 volt dedicated starter motor driven hydraulic pump, which will only pull a load when you move the joystick in the cab to raise/lower the chute or the door... pretty snazzy little unit.
