Wow!! How many fried clutches, rims bashed into new shapes only remotely resembling round, extra unplanned holes in engine cases?? Looks like fun though.

That's actually on the mellow side, the one they did when you were here last and we rode Keanakolu / Mana Rd. is going down as full on Epic!

Only issues were a plugged up pilot jet and a 450XCR that overheated repeatedly until it finally blew a gasket...

No Doubt that was a good time! There's a B-Day ride this Sunday, his place is probably two miles from Inge's, plan is to do some riding and then some BBQ'ing. If you're here you ought to come down for the grinds.

PS: Found out yesterday that Bastad is really only 69, fricking SandBagger, had me believing he was 70.... No wonder he's so fricking fast!!!

Dueling with Dual Sport

~Pick a line Dual Sport’en~

Group of riders out having fun beyond procrastination,
Dunlop 606’s humming out 55 Mph with a destination.

Corner mans bike points the direction of off road travel,
Riders get ready for whatever comes up, rocks or gravel.

Clad in plastic armor that take hard hits, including boots,
Two track mud & rock roads go to one track mud & roots.

As the trail demands level 3 & 4 strength and technique,
Heart & lungs supply electro chemicals to the physique.

With fingers covering front brake & clutch levers tension,
Riders are fluid over the lava rocks, utilizing all suspension.

Enduro off road bullet proofed are, the bikes and riders,
Riding on any Sunday, any road or jungle trail with spiders.

Off road trail loops connect via Hwy tarmac for a few miles,
Dual Sport’en is a hole in the bushes trail, producing smiles.

Suspension fluid spit through shim stacks from riders blitz,
Baby powdered tubes slip away from sharp lava rock hits.

DS rides get better from innovative thought from last ride,
Fun is testing out new gear, tires, what tools you confide.

Day/night/rain/Sun/fog any weather rides, is Dual-Sport’en,
Pit stop filled bench racing laughter of soil samples eaten.

Enjoyment of dialing in for extreme DS off road experience,
Is as much fun as the ride and friendship of high importance.

'Nother ADVrider hits the Beach

'Nother ADVrider shipped a bike over to Hilo, picked it up today. Pretty Sweet 530 with a set of Motard wheels:

My work/storage area is starting to get choked up, here it is minus a Green KLR that's currently out being ridden, five bikes and only two are mine:

Gasser's B-Day Ride

So a bunch of us got together today to help Gasser celebrate his 69th B-Day by riding some trails near his house and then BBQ'ing afterwards. We did most of the same trails from the DS two weeks back, there were nine riders, four 2T's and five thumpers plus good ole MK200 Race Master Ed on his ATV. Another four hung over and sand bagging folks with their GF's showed up for the BBQ plus IdahoSam and his lovely wife. Weather was sunshine with grey and wet mixed in with rain but we had a great time! First stop was the shoreline boulder climb.

Ben on his 450X:

Dennis on his YZ450F (with plate ):

Lehua on her 280 Pampera:

Wayne the "Real Trials Rider" on his Pampera:

Gasser, Jared, and Blue lining up for their run:

A few miles down the coast after coming out of the jungle and hitting the lava again:

Back at Gasser's place, loaded up, and BBQing:

And the man himself admiring his "Over the Hill" King Sized Emergency Whistle, no "Help I've Fallen and can't get (it) Up" radio link for Gasser!

Great ride, great food (every male brought at least three lbs of BBQ stuff) Kal Bi ribs, Korean Tri-Tip, Shrimp, salad, cake, pie, baked potatos, Kim Chee, hell pretty much a typical Local GRIND!!

Great times, I fell into a hole with my bike on top of me, Gasser flipped his bike on top of himself, Dennis bounced from root to rock totally out of control until he dropped his air eight or so pounds, Blue's battery died, Ed nearly flipped his Quad numerous times, and Gasser got the KILLER BBQ going!!!

Vacancy at the Big Island ADVrider Inn

Idahosam's KLR is headed toward the Sunny Side of the Big Island with a new owner so there's a vacancy at my ADVrider Stash Joint.

Lot's of space, tools available (metric, SAE, power, torque wrenches, and (mini) air compressor), lot's of M/C specific fluids, and Free Maps for those that want to explore! In exchange be willing to drink beer, bust your knuckles, enjoy the rain, and be quiet when the little man is napping.

See ya Sam! Y'all come back now, hear!

May 2nd Big Island Dual Sport Association Dual-Sport BBQ Ride

Here's the details;

Anyone can make this ride, treat your wife/girlfriend to a good ride.

Street only bikes take the pavement to Pohoiki, turning right @ Hwy 137 Kapoho/Kalapana Rd, go 1/2 mile past the 12 mile marker, BBQ spot is just past Mackenzie State Park on the Ocean side.

Level "2" riders go down HPP Maku'u Dr to Beach road to Kapoho/Kalapana RD, go 1/2 mile past the 12 mile marker.

Serious level "4" Off road Dual Sport riders can make it interesting by usingGasser's trail 69 sections to get to Kapoho/Kalapana RD, turning off into Mackenzie State Park and taking that sandy Coconut grove section leading back up to K/K Rd, turning left, the BBQ will be about 300 ft on down the road.

I will be there with my truck all set up about 10:00 am firing up the BBQ @ 12:00 noon.

Riders only need bring their choice of steak & drink.

Note> You may want to bring a small ground cover to sit and eat on.

I will provide salad & dressing, BBQ, napkin's, K, F, S, cups, plates, water, and cooler full of ice to cool down food & soda's.

Note> (serious Trail 69 riders may want to have someone else bring their steak/drink stuff)

Call Wayne Blyth @ Big Island Power Sports 961-3033 for for details about the staging time for riders of level "4" Trail 69 sections.

He sleeps on the couch on any sunny Sunday
Procrastinating this ride saying some other day

He grabbed a big hand full of the go fast grip
Proclaiming, shit man, I'm going to let'er rip

Count me in! Though I'm going to have to tap the ADVrider stash at my joint for this one.

My WR currently has a Trials Tire on the rear and I don't want to fry it when there's a couple of bikes over here with Gen You Ine DOT tires mounted. Gotta send an e-mail tonight!

You don't even have to ask.
