snow in the rockies

I'm planning to spend next summer in Juneau/Skagway area of Alaska next summer. I would take the boat both ways from Washington. I would be traveling from northern Indiana. The time frame is May 1 through early september to mid september. How much snow, if any would I encounter in latter april or mid september? I would be particularly concerned with the Rockies. I would appreciate the input. Maybe a plane ticket would be best.

Although there may be the possibility of snow at higher elevations when you are traveling through the Rockies September if a great time to ride weather is cool in the mornings but warms up nicely during the day. The big plus is the lack of bugs that bite.

April is a bit early, you would still encounter a lot of snow and possibility of new snow as well. You would be better off waiting to late May.

If you're worried about snow, just detour a little south on the way west. I've ridden between Seattle and points in the eastern U.S. in early March by staying south of I-70, and even along I-80 and I-90 in early May. Let the Weather Channel be your guide.

Thanks for the input guys. I never thought of a more southern route Alcan Rider. I guess I was in the most direct mode of thought. It wouldn't hurt to get a little extra scenery along the way.

I encountered snow in the Bighorn Mountains and Black Hills in mid May.

That being said, it can be 90 degrees in Deming New Mexico on the same day.

Just watch each days weather. Rain in San Francisco can equal snow in Salt Lake the next day.

Snow in The Rockies can happen regularly into June. It begins again in late September. Sometimes Mid-September.

Over a foot fell last week in The Wind River Mountains of Wyoming, for example.

June and September are beautiful times of the year in The Rockies. If snow does fall, it won't last long and the roads will clear quickly.
