Tennessee/North Carolina West to East

I have agreed to a buy and ride for a WR250R located in Springfield, Mo. My final destination is Raleigh, NC. I fly in to get the bike Friday, June 25th. I hope to get home in 3 days and I will be camping.
I think I will cross over the Mississippi river into Tenn at the Dorena ferry. This will be in the NW corner of Tenn. My question is:

Q1. What is a good way to get through Tennessee?
I am looking for something fun to ride or especially scenic. Should I cross into N. Carolina near the Tail of the Dragon? I have never done the Tail (of the dragon that is).

Q2. Any good routes back thru NC to Raleigh?

I'd run the dragon stop get your sticker and tee shirt, beyond that stay off 40 as much as possible, and run some of 26 or run back up the blue ridge pkwy for a bit then cut down to RDU

have fun be safe,

Teh Dragon

Last report was that US129 was blovked by a rock slide just west of the Dragon. You should come in to the eastern half of TN on SR-30 (McMinnville, Dayton, Athens, Tellico Plains), cross into NC via the Cherohala Skyway. Once you are atthe eastern end of the Skyway (Robbinsville, NC) you can back track a little to run the Dragon.
