CANNONBALL SCOOTERISTS TRUCK STOLEN-- STRANDED in Grand Forks, BC Canada

Two riders had a support truck stolen from their hotel room last night.

They may need some help. Anyone up that way?

I stuck the thread and changed the title (if you don't mind).

Might be worth a try in regionals? They may not be ADV riders but if they're doing the cannonball, they're one of us, AFAIC. And it's just good karma to help other riders, regardless of tribe.

Thanks. Star (one of the two riders) is local to me. I don't know her, but happened to find out about her when I visited our local Cycle Gear on the Stella the other week. The guys in the shop noticed my bike and asked if I knew her--she had apparently just left with a megaload of Castrol 2T oil for the rally.

Jeebus, that sucks. The truck AND the bikes. I'm sure they've got contacts, but a little support from the ADV clan would be cool, too.

It’s still stolen!

We pretty much sat on our respective butts all day, disappointingly as all of the SCR riders left this morning. About midday, I met an RCMP constable in the motel parking lot, and he said that they may have found the truck in some outpost 150 miles north of here…he did think that the vehicle had TN plates, but that it was now a crime scene, and the local law was waiting to see if anyone showed up, and that they may be able to put me and Bill on a Greyhound bus up to this outpost.
All of that fizzled out, and we (me and Bill) have taken turns with cussing (me) and demonstrations of faith (Bill, the younger). I know that all of you have used up your “green stamps in prayer” for us, and we are still hoping for a meaningful (I want my TRUCK) resolution.
Thanks to everyone. BTW, this place is so beautiful…sort of makes the human condition (recently witnessed) so incredibly pathetic and grandiose, all at the same time. Go figure…I may go take some pictures, while I wait for the RCMP.

This is the day to remember the wretchedness brought to us nine years ago. The remembrance is sufficiently miserable, and no other “dumping” should be allowed.

BUT…

We’ve had no further response from the RCMP. Local time here is ~4:30 AM. We will try again in a couple of hours. My sincere hope is that there not have been too many white F350s bearing Tennessee tags stolen and abandoned, and that the constable who I collared yesterday morning in the motel parking lot, was not BSing me.

Thanks, friends, for all of your thoughts.

Bill and Bill, Jr.

Rumors are that the truck has been recovered. That's all I have have heard and it is un-substantiated but from a good source. No details.

Damn, that sucks. I hope the truck is still functional.

Damn meth/crack/coke heads.

I hope karma kicks the thief or thieves so hard in the teeth that they crap molars for a month.

I forgot to update this thread... I have been so busy. The RCMP found the truck several days later but made the owner wait several more while they watched o see if the person that stole it didn't come back for more. The truck proper had the lock popped and some othe minor physical dame but was otherwise fine. Everything that wasn't nailed down (tools, clothes, gear, food, oil, gas, ...) was taken.

The owner drove the truck home without incident and life is moving forward.

This thread could be un-stickied.

The scooters were not being hauled in the truck all the time, it was being used as a support truck for the the rally. i am going to guess it was simply that was they guys "everyday" truck. Living in TN, I am going to guess his has something to do with horses an that means 3/4 ton trucks. He was goign to support at least three scooters on thiis journey.
