Here's my $.02 contribution:
For any gps battery sucking app, I really like the mophie juice pack. It more than doubles battery life, can be used as a "protective case" and uses mini usb to connect and charge/sync with my computer. Also, super basic - but I really like the ibooks app. I have all manuals in pdf format and have them saved in the ibooks app, which is super handy should I ever need a reference trailside. Bam.

- double click the home button - slide the menu of apps to the left (by sliding your finger to the right) - the orientation lock button is on the left side, beyond the music controls. Hope this helps.

I still have version 3.1.3 software on my iPhone as I hate the newest 4.0 software as there are glitches... and because I don't have current 4.0 software I can't download some apps because I need the new software. Stupid!!!

Hey Guys,
I'm looking for an App for journal entries. I like to keep a daily journal of my trips, at present, I'm either hand writing notes in a small notebook, or firing up the laptop and doing a journal in MS word. I'd like an App that would basically let me take notes for each day, I have no desire to update to facebook, or a blog, or store on the internet in some cloud! Just want to jot down the days events, and then maybe re-write them when I get home on a real desktop, with a big screen. It would be nice to be able to export my notes in some kind of format that I could get into word on my home computer. I've looked at several journal apps but I thought I'd ask here first before spending a bunch of time figuring out what did and did not work for me. I've even looked as some of the simple note programs, and possibly one of those will do what I want. Your wisdom is appreciated! Steve

On a side note I used trackr today for my ride. It worked fantastic. So far the best new software I have gotten from this thread. It's exactly what I wAnted.

Just got a new app that I thought I'd bring up.
Skobbler It's a road-oriented GPS routing app. Type in your destination, it routes you, with voice guidance (not street names, just "turn right in 200 ft"). The UI is not the best, and searching for things sucks, but it's FREE, so you can't expect much. It uses Open Street Map data, which means it might not be the most accurate, but if something's wrong, you yourself can report an inaccuracy or edit it. This, along with MotionX GPS are my 2 sole apps. They are making me think really hard whether or not to pick up a 60CSx. |

"GPS Kit" does the trick for me. Pricy ($9.99) but very useful when preparing rally and detailing stages (track altitude, speed, upload rally stages and reccee info and so on). I'll be starting to use it for touring on the bike!! can't wait!

I used TripJournal for a while, and it performed very well. It had a Notes module, and you could save your Photos with your GPS position, so your public could follow your route, read the notes and look at the pictures associated with each location. Exports could be e-mailed out, too.
I just hate typing on a phone.

Check out Momento too.. I keep reading great reviews of it, specifically for journals.
