Thanks for signing in Dave, ST has been a very faithful and reliable companion during the adventure, a few people at work are blaming our RR for unanswered emails piling up.

I am committed to finishing up the report this weekend.

Hey Marty,

The thing we love the most about Europe is the equilibrium between natural beauties and with man made architecture, and exquisite food. A perfect balance, who ever said that you must suffer for a real adventure to be deemed as such.

Jackie has decided to get a tattoo to cover the burn, something with with the compass points with a flaming center.

Cheers,

Laugh A question of plumbing.

...During one of our frequent autobhan fuel stop -at that speed, even ST was getting thirsty- Valentino was chatting with a couple of Dutch bikers, when Jackie came out of the loo with an amused yet quizzical grin . You know how pleasant a trip to the WC can be when yo do the miles, but the look she gave me got my immediate attention.

So she goes: Uh! you have to pay 50 cents for the washroom, or the automatic turnstile won’t let you through, and check it out, the seat does a weird contortion when you press on the button to flush, and the arm thingy extends and, I don’t know it’s weird, go check it out!”

BTW you get a .50 cent credit at the coffee place after.

Valentino was intrigued

We had just experience our first German sanifare , a nifty self cleaning toilet. German engineering at its best!

Before this description turns even further South, I will spare you my impression of the German lavatory and let you judge by yourself.

Ok Ok! Enough about German plumbing,

Thumbs down Wrapping it all up.

We made it to Amsterdam by 2200, as I saw the indication for Centrum, I turned off GP. I'm home... I thought, more at home then I had been in the last three years.

Valentino could find his way to Saphartipark no problem. I took us through the narrow streets, left here, right there. Bridges, and canals, pass the tram, right on Ceintuurbaan and there we were. Stopped, I powered off ST we removed our helmets, pulled off our gloves, and just like that, this adventure was over. We had come full circle, and were right back where it had all begun more than three months ago.

I let out a long sigh, hugged Liliane, and as we made our way up the tiny stairs to our room, we really did not know how to feel....

But Valentino had a plan to make it all better.

If you have ever been to Amsterdam, you are likely familiar with this place, if not let me introduce you.

First you pass by here.

And here.

Go through there.

Park here.
ST is the biggest girl around -no doubt-.

Then you find this place. Be patient and stand in line.

Or not.

Once you've scored run for your life.

A quick look back to make sure your not been followed.

Houba! Houba! .

Amsterdam is an amazing place, always something to do, go to, discover, or just hang out, if you can think about it you can get it, do it, or see it here.

The city is safe, easy to get around, and even easier to get lost in. But you can walk it, bus it, tram it, metro it, boat it, but mostly you can bike it.

Amsterdam is a cyclist's wet dream.

It's hard to take a pics without a "fiets" in it.

You get the idea right?

But just in case you didn't here's your chance.

ST still had an ace in the hole.

So she called the twins, STs and Renés were once again reunited.

And the four of them went for a ride.

Time to go Valentino, make sure you keep up.

This is going to be hard, Jackie you better hang on.

Wait for me.

It's about time.

See... Dood we have ferries here too!

Hop off.

The Netherlands.

Villages.

Castles.

And critters too.

And a stop for lunch.

Then we headed to the airport and put ST on her flight back home.

This goes like that guys!

That's better.

No! No! you guys took the wrong ST.

Bye bye, Have a good flight.

See you in a couple of weeks, thank you for getting us there and back. Can't wait for next time.

Tomorrow we hop on the Thalys direction Paris -Gare du Nord-. Doing 2 of your favorite cities in the same week is a real treat.

The end

Hi Supercub,

Writing the report was very therapeutic.

We have been on the West Coast since Feb now, did a ride through the Oregon/Nor Cal coast, to San Francisco, Yosemite, and back through the Sierras by Reno earlier in July. It was great albeit short; 10 days. As soon as I have a bit of time I will post a Pacific Coast edition of the chronicles.

We are at the pre-planning stage of a trip to Ushuaia for 2012.

Excellent photos. I especially enjoyed the Italian ones - reminded me of my travels through there (sadly in a v.small car, not a bike).

Thumb Still on the ST

Although I have been eyeing the GSA a lot lately, we are at the pre-planning stage of our trip to Argentina for 2012 or 2013, well I lke planning what can I tell you... Next summer the South West, the year after Mexico and by then we will have saved enough and practiced for a leisurely ride to Ushuaia.

That looks familiar

What a great ride report you really captured the flavour of the trip and not just all the great food.
