If I remember right it was:
    100 yards standing
    200 yards kneeling
    300 yards sitting
    and
    500 yards prone

I took boot at MCRD San Diego. We used Pendelton for the infantry training and rifle range. Yards if I recall. Paris Island had a meter range.

Have you cleaned out the gas return tube? I found that to help

No, I was told that was something you never needed to do. What's the best way to clean it out?

Last time I qualified at the range in '99 (Stone Bay, Camp Lejuene) we didn't fire from the 100 at all. There was a 200 standing, 200 rapid from kneeling, 300 from sitting and 500 from prone....if memory serves. (I've slept a lot since then)

At any rate, even though the front sight post is wider than the target there was little excuse to ever miss a point on the 500. Once you get a good position and sling set up, the prone is rock solid and as long as you can read the wind it's no issue.

I also went thru MCRD San Diego/ "Red Mike" Edson range and remember that we got a small bump in scoring because the range was metric and the rifle's sight elevation increments are in yards (or vice versa).

The Fins did make a Mosin Nagant M91-30 as well. But I don't KNOW that it was or wasn't his weapon. Looks like one in the picture.

Adding a few drops of oil or light grease around the inside of the buffer tube will help if you don't lube it already. Push the buffer back a couple of inches and wipe it around in the tube. You don't have to use a ton in there.

Pipe cleaner. Very little amount of CLP or whatever cleaner you use. No lubricant. And after that pipe cleaner until it comes out completely dry.

Do the same with the gas-tube-reciever on the top of the bolt. While you're in there make sure there isn't a carbon build-up on the side walls of the upper reciever. Should also check the spring housing and all the vents to make sure they aren't clogged.

Another area people don't check is where the bolt locks into the chamber

    That sounds more like it!
Was 20+ years since I was there.

I don't remember exactly but it seems like I was grouping the ten shots in like 6-8 inches. The biggest problem with prone was getting used to that tight sling.

Si it was yards at Paris Island? I mean it's really no big deal.. 36 inches vs 39 inches... but it was always fun to give the Parris Island guys gas whenever they brought up Hollywood Marines :lol3

Mt Motha vs sandfleas .. metirc vs yards (or was it the other way around :hmmmmm)

Check out the Remington, Springfield and Kimber. Not sure what the word on Colt is these days but I would look there.

If you want a good reliable inexpensive model, look at the Rock Island

$82,000? That's mighty high for a gun and a plant tour.

I got out in '03. I was on special duty since 2000 and hadn't hit the range since. However, this looks about right:
    USMC Rifle Marksmanship Data Book

    200 Slow- Sitting, Kneeling, standing
    200 Rapid - Kneeling
    300 Slow - Kneeling
    300 Rapid - Prone
    500 Slow - Prone

Then again, I carried my prefered weapon of choice:
