Thanks Mark...actually on the XS1 there isn't any fuse block. There's just one single fuse inline with the battery hot. I'm checking for shorts....but I'm wondering if I'll need to replace the rotor (used replacement), regulator and/or rectifier.

Woo Woo Woo Woo Wooo Woo Woo Woo Woo! Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk!
I have a '79 project XS650G Standard. It is a dream machine. I dream of all kinds of things to turn it into. The most long lasting dream is to turn it into an adventure tourer with a 21" front wheel, some new design dual sport tires and plastic fenders. I would also like to build a set of high scrambler pipes for it.

the 79 std
Quote:
If it's a decent example of a 79 std, you should keep it that way and use parts from all the other old junkers out there for a scrambler This is my 2 cents. Others may disagree. Let's see your photo of it.... 2many

I didn't know that at all!Nice. So we were deprived of a "bike". I see most all the std's features that I'm used to. All I really see different is the tailight. Did it come with the chrome instr buckets, dual disc's? metal side covers? Nice looking bike.

It's another example of what the corporate structure thinks we as american's want. Like with radio, pre programed play list's that exclude anything but what the survey says.
In that 80's era I had great discust with the nature of styling of bikes, as it seemed that everything was going towards a laid back cruiser. My personal opinion... Give me a choice everyday between a new 80 special and a new 80 STD, and I'll choose and 80 STD everysingle day! Most likely Yamaha's research resulted in the fact that the masses in America wanted specials.

A german dealer bought about 1000 Heritage Specials from 82 and 83 which haven't been sold in US for a piece of bread and sold them in Germany over the years. That's where my 5V4 is off which was sold in 86! Sorry, got no better pic: ![]() Its in pieces by now to meet a 77 STD frame with a sidecar. greets beys |
