Not all 20" BMX wheels are meant to handle the abuse of trials riding, especially BMX wheels from WallyWorld. Thin axles, loosely tensioned spokes, steel rims.. add together to be heavy and weak wheels.
High end trials wheels have cutouts between spokes, drilled sidewall on the rim to save weight without reducing the strength of the rim significantly:

If you bought good quality (competition quality, or custom-laced) BMX wheels, yeah, they'd probably hold up okay, but standard issue walmart wheels may not hold up as well as you'd want. Can't say from experience in terms of buying an el-cheapo dimestore BMX, but I do have some decent high-end BMX and freestyle wheelsets that work fine, but they aren't what you'd get at wallyworld.

If you just are itching to get started, go for it, but you may end up with a nicer wheelset sooner than later. You might be better off trolling the flea markets, CL, and Goodwill-type stores to find an old beater but better-quality name-brand BMX bike for the same amount of coin to yank the wheelset off of.

+1 I have broken a lot of wheels, axles, and headsets doing trials-y things on cheap bikes. I don't learn though, I just keep finding cheap stuff at yard sales.

super light and astounding brakes. also a much longer frame. you'll love it.

I just ordered two pair of G-Form shin guards. I'm hoping they do the trick because I'm not a real big fan of emergency rooms.

I don't know why I need to buy another bike that I don't have time to ride...

But, I want one of these. I like the buy a frame and put cheap shit on it for now thing. I mean really...I will spend most of my time just trying to balance the thing. I have no hope of really doing any jumping, spinning, fence riding...with it.

That's the beauty of the bicycle, you don't need hours to go ride to make it worth while and at the beginner level even hopping up a curb is difficult. A spare half hour is pretty much all you need.

I suppose there is that. Someday I'll quite drooling over the Gas Gas bikes and just go ride them!
