Cheers Baza

Hi Guys,
Thanks! The chair is a 1965 "Spirit of America Sport Sidecar", and I've got old Cycle and Cycle World mags with adverts for it in them. Kind of fun. I got it from some folks who had it on a Harley, and it was too light--they kept flying it. I run a car battery behind the seat, and that suffices for ballast, plus it is usually loaded with camping gear or a Grandchild or two..... ![]() The XS likes the chair, but the rear wheel also likes to be respoked every 10,000 miles or so. I guess I still need to further fine-tune the lean-out and toe-in, but she sure feels neutral going down the road. If nothing else, it makes life interesting, and keeps me out of bars......

HMMMMM, I'll be back in a minute! ![]() Almost identical to the chair I built for the waterbottle, ['79], photo my father riding it on the farm. ![]() Just found that photo of XS650 '74 with the chair, yep ugly fella is me [before the grey] If I build another one, there will be heaps more thought go into the design for a start, track width same as a landcruiser? Leading Link frontend? the list goes on! Cheers Baza

Today I am going to try and make my own set of stainless highpipes.
Hunter: How does your right pipe clear the kickstarter? |

![]() ![]() Hope those two photos do the job, the pipes were made by me farting around with some spare pipe, shed pipebender & stick welding! Like to make some that travel closer to the tank, but these do the job nicely! Though the fit between oilstick & exhaust is close for inspection purposes! Cheers Baza

This is what I'd like to end up with. http://fredsgarage.smugmug.com/photo...1_CuTD7-XL.jpg Went by a place today that does fittings, they could only get 38mm. OD in 1.25mm or 2.00mm thickness, what do you reckon Gordon? LasseNC screwed with this post 04-08-2011 at 05:16 AM |

We tried that out for a week or so back in the 80's here in the states but it didn't stick Went back to our colonist ways, give'em an inch and we'll take a mile (don't know what that is in mm and kilometers). I make my pipes for stock motors out of 1 1/2" od .065 wall (thats 16ga) thick tube. To make collars just get pipe thats 1 1/2" on the inside.

![]() though I'm getting quite pedantic about my workmanship [improving but still room for more sofistication anyway!] ![]() The XS likes the chair, but the rear wheel also likes to be respoked every 10,000 miles or so. I guess I still need to further fine-tune the lean-out and toe-in, but she sure feels neutral going down the road. If nothing else, it makes life interesting, and keeps me out of bars...... Is your rear wheel 18" or 16", better off with a 16" laced wheel, shorter spokes - less stress & movement I've found over the years of playing with XS's. Cheers Baza

Edit: My biggist concern right now is actually getting to buy the pipes, they don't sell to private persons, so I am figuring something out. |
