The dealer told me that too!! I just ended up with the gray which looks awesome too just not what I wanted. Other than that the first 600 miles have been awesome. Now im contemplating whether or not to do the first service myself or bite the bullet and spend 250 just for the first one so they can check everything?

Black and red seat!
Quote:
Just ridden Mrs P's bike to England and back tonight running it in on smaller twisty Borders roads, a round trip of 58 miles only, fuel light came on at 140 miles on the odo so that's the first tank of fuel through the bike.......... approx $6 per UK gallon....! I'm riding her bike even though i'm 6 foot 4" tall with my black Dakar seat and 3/4 preload and it's really very comfortable. FP.

They have shifted the focus of this bike ever so slightly away from off-road to make the upsell easier on their salesmen to more expensive models.

Im very comfortable doing that stuff myself especially when im saving that much money but I figure the first one they will check all the computer stuff that I cant check and hopefully notice things I might have missed. After this first check up Im doing all the maintenance myself. That makes sense right? Or am I just an idiot?

Yes I do love the look of that seat....just wish I could get it over here.
Ah well....those tires really make the bike look more aggressive as well. Did you add the possum scraper or is that an "overseas" thing....

Tyres are Mitas E-10 150/70-17 on rear, and the possum scraper is (i think) a registration requirement here...the back wheel has to be covered a certain amount of degrees from the axle or some equally nonsensical measurement to appease the bureaucrats ...I'll be taking it off in the near future though.

There may be some translation confusion here. I may be wrong but I believe the engine continues to be produced at the Chinese plant but is shipped for assembly with the bike in Germany. I also believe this is the same spec motor, flywheel and all, as the recent G650X series. |

http://bmwmcmag.com/wp-content/uploa..._650_GS_EN.pdf . Same engine as g650x and all rotax 650 singles (kinda)...with a few different bits..like less HP, more electrical power. Bigger stator would rob some HP so that makes sense to me...some new european standard next year for bikes with 48hp, We only know what they tell us. and we know they NEVER lie.

You may be correct. It's mostly an academic concern but I just highly doubt that they've pulled engine production from China that quickly, after only one year. I had read somewhere ( I can't find it) that BMW had a longer contract with the Chinese. Tooling up anew to build the same motor in Germany seems crazy. Nothing in the BMW MC MAG cited says anything about it. All they say is that the bike is assembled in Germany. I don't doubt that. Previously, Aprilia had that honor, apparently. There's nothing wrong with the Chinese motor, by the way. Probably better built than the others ! |

My New '11
Here a shot of my New 11''. I just took delivery last week. I wanted the white on Red but I was told that was a no go as well. As was the Red on Red. European Spec only.
I'm loving the bike in general. Any recommendations fellow owners on a high quality top case or panniers? The BMW stuff is way pricey. |
