It's pretty rocky hereabouts, too. Try a Michelin T63, performs pretty much the same as the MT21 but doesn't chunk until it's 3/4 gone, so it grips a lot longer.

windscreen screws

Hey guys, I went to take off the windscreen and front plastics to access the radiator better, but I couldn't get the damn screws to come out. Is there a trick to unscrewing these phillips heads. The bikes a 99'. The things that should be the simplest piss you off the most

Just a guess,

Here's what you should have. Bracket attaches to the tank, bolt goes through the fairing and into the "spring clip nut" (my own term) which is on the bracket tab.



I'm guessing instead of the "spring clip nut" you've got a regular nut just spinning around.



If this is the case find someone with small hands to help you out.

Thanks Gerst, I'll have to take another look in the morning. I reached all over the inside of the fairing and couldn't feel anything in there.
On another note, this is my first dirt bike, are the inside of the airboxes normally pretty dirty. This thing blew my mind. I've never had a bike were the air filter needed oiled though! When I took the side of the cover off there was a "pre-filter"? before the opening to the box. Is this normal? It looked like a green sos pad used for scrubbing dishes.

What would be the pros of going with a Vapor, or is it Viper, or an endurance tripmaster, like in the above pic v.s. just fixing the stock IMOs .....

I mean, as it stands now, my odometer is hosed anyways and the bike reads 0 for mileage, so it doesn't matter what I put in.

I'll also be posting this question in the 640 thread index as well .....

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions everyone.

A friend did the same trip on T63 and I agree they grip longer but I have had enough of DS tires, non of them last long and the grip they provide is most usually a compromise. I wont be going back from real FIM enduro tires as I'm ready to sacrifice all of the on road riding for a proper grip off road.

@G-funk....no build thread but I can tell you what I did; my IMO died, not just battery but completely, as Touratech wanted 300€ to fix it I ordered a relatively cheap Electrosport unit for 60 something $. The surrounding plastic is from a 2003 model with a 12V outlet - fits right in. The mask for the space around the unit I made from 2mm aluminum and painted it black. The bracket inside is simple and fixes in place with two screws that hold both the bracket for the unit and the mask....

If you would like I can take pics next time I tear into the bike.....

New 02 640 LC4 - Tech Questions

Hi Guys,

I just purchased a 2002 KTM LC4 640. The bike appears to be in great shap and it runs well too. I have been going through the bike and managed to take the seat off and side panels. My questions is, there is a rectangular opening above the air filter (air box) and I found my CDI box sitting inside the air box. It has two holes to mount it and I have no idea as to where it mounts properly. Can anyone help me with this issue. I don't have a picture as I discovered it last night and left for work out of state for a few days.

Also, is there a cover for that opening other than the bottom of the seat.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
