A week or two before it was closed, the girls wanted me to take them up there for a pic a nic lunch in the van. Hope you don't mind, Tom, if I throw a couple of my pics on the end of your thread.

My 5 month old daughter drove. She really likes that place.

Samish Overlook temporarily closed because 12 trees cut down
KIE RELYEA - THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

The state Department of Natural Resources has temporarily closed the Samish Overlook on Blanchard Mountain because of vandalism, the agency announced Friday, April 29.

DNR is coordinating volunteers to help clean up the vandalism, in which 12 trees were cut down and left in the area, creating possible hazards for visitors.

The day-use area will be closed at least two to three weeks for the cleanup, according to a DNR news release.

Located in Skagit County, Samish Overlook is a popular viewpoint and launch point for hang gliders and paragliders. DNR said that because of the state's tight budget, volunteers will be vital in helping to reopen the area.

DNR re-opens Samish Overlook after downed trees cleared
KIE RELYEA - THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

The state Department of Natural Resources has re-opened the Samish Overlook on Blanchard Mountain after volunteers helped clean up 12 trees that had been cut down by vandals and left behind, the agency announced Friday, May 13.

To protect the public, DNR closed the day-use area in late April until the trees could be cleared.

The limbs will be used for mulch at the site, according to a DNR news release.
Located just south of Bellingham in Skagit County, Samish Overlook is a popular viewpoint and launch point for hang gliders and paragliders.

Sixteen volunteers from the North Cascades Soaring Club helped with the cleanup. The club also donated the use of a chipper to help complete the project.

Seems like it could have been vandals with chainsaws, i thought it was kinda funny that the trees cut down were right where the gliders launch? I'm not accusing anybody, just sayin'

Well, at least the closure was for our own safety. I mean, it could be horrible if some innocent hiker came across a fallen tree in the woods. You could trip on that, skin your knee, and spill your granola!

Thanks, and you too Mark. The van makes for a good lunch wagon so we can keep out of the scorching sun we have around these parts.

I found a guy with a map of the single track of the area we rode last fall. It's one of only two hand made maps, but he said I could take a picture of it and make my own.

Let me know if you want to head up there again. I'm gonna hit some of those trails later this week after work on the KTM.

I read your quote again; that could very well be the most complimentary reply a guy could ever recieve on an internet riding forum. Thank you.

I need to do some major spring massaging on the GasGas. If I can get it done Tuesday or Wednesday, I'd really like to go.

I used to think that She Low was not only better looking than I am, but also smarter. But how smart can she be if she married me?
