Not arrogant, I have ridden it, but I know better roads, that have less traffic, so no need to join the circus. Just common sense, it a vehicle can't safely travel a road, bridge, tunnel regulation is in order, and done all the time.

Can't see how it is arrogant ... these roads were likely laid out well before the advent of the size of rigs as we know them today. Maybe I'm talking though my arse as I haven't been on the road in question (plan to in the future) but judging by the pics there is no way it is suitable for big rigs... common sense I would have thought.

In Oz these kinds of roads are signed "Not suitable for trucks, buses, caravans trailers" which is highlighted under a large warning sign about the gradient and/or winding nature of the road ... these are large signs and very hard not to see. This also applies to tunnels, bridges with low clearances etc ... the signs show advised detours. In Oz if these signs are white background with black writing they are thus regulatory and MUST be obeyed. If the background is yellow with black writing the sign is advisory only. My research leads me to understand that road signs of this sort are an internationally agreed standard.

Is this road a short cut? Is this why the trucks attempt it? I can imagine there may be some occasional need for a truck to travel on this road for a local delivery but why are they not required to have leading and following escort vehicles?

Yes. I remember reading somewhere that even if some truckers are fined a sizable sum by the THP for using that route, they still end up making a tidier profit by the time saved.

Make them pay for the police and emergency vehicles, then fine the company and driver, then put points on the drivers record. In no way should those trucks be on that road, they endanger every motorist whether bike or cage. That's why they do have regulatory signs limiting weight, axles and/or length. I know because we get those asshats up on HWY9 when HWY17 is closed. Fucks up traffic for hours. I will give the professional truckers credit, it's usually some dipshit in a moving van or a 40' RV.

Sorry for my own ignorance. I have edited my post accordingly but still maintain my point. You should be able to either trail brake as you have defined it here and also understand the dynamics of engine braking if you want to ride safely. Assuming you will always be able to enter every turn at the correct speed without any adjustments is not realistic and you will have to learn to make adjustments while cornering. In order to do so you will need to master both trail and engine braking.
