wow, very straight original machine. Original pipes and even the original nitto tires. Keep those tires, not to ride on but keep them and/or sell. Some guys who just want a museum piece would love to have them. I still have mine. You can't get proper white walls for these bikes any more. Basically have to make your own with portawalls. Don't look right without whitewalls though.

Hopefully the pipes are not rusted out, just surface rust. The do make some SS replacements but not true to original form. She's a beut though. I get mine out often for vintage rides. I've had it up to 70mph but it gets pretty scary up there what with the marginal brakes, crappy suspension, and the motor is really spinning at that speed, but it will dust off a Royal Enfield :)

it appears that both fenders are uncut/not cracked. the rears crack by the frame mounts and the fronts get all messed up at the rear from loading them improperly. appears to be missing the hardest part - the carb covers....

i restored bunches of dreams, and they are the biggest pain body work wise.... the front suspension is lame. the brakes are lame. the motor is lame. even with all that going against them, they are fun to ride.

you're seriously telling me these tires are worth $???

I got the side covers (or at least one, gotta check the bag). Got the carb.
I'm not missing too much that I know of; tank emblems....
gotta start getting well versed in these things.

Mufflers are shit.
I'll start worrying about those after I get her running.
Bodywork is in damn good form though.

I get a sad feeling everytime I see one. I wish I had never sold mine. It was so much fun to run around on. Mine sounded surprisingly awesome as well.

The 305 forum is good, but you have to dig a little. Loud mouse is the man. He can come off (well, be) a bit of a hard ass, but all of my dealings with him were very positive, including a couple of long phone conversations. I messed around with the carb on mine for months before sending it to him. Came back looking and functioning like new. All for $75, iirc.

My dad bought a house once. There was a 305 Dream in the basement.

He played pro football back in the 60's. I'm no slouch myself.

God, those things are heavy. I had no interest in the one in the basement, it was too far gone. I think he got $50 for it, dry rotted tires and all.

Alright, I wasn't sold on the giro before - at least not interested in doing it until I read deerslayer's report But $160 is still a lot to this guy.

It is good to be back and having something to tinker on.

So gas tank;

I've never really witnessed what 26 year old gas turns into.
It's horribly smelly.

Threw in a dozen nuts and a bunch of lacquer thinner, shake, shake, shake, rinse with acetone.
Came out swell. Sorry no pics of the insides, but maybe this will get you excited.

So there still is a downside to this tank. The paint is seriously worn.
I'd like to preserve it as is. Is that at all possible, like throw a bunch of clear on it?
I don't want it to look any different, just not get any worse.

On the goose, I brushed in some primer and then some black. It looked great to me.
So that's plan B if I can't figure out how to time capsule it.

KEV - thanks a ton for locating that schematic. Just printed it out

Bachelor party?

I was playing tag with some 4 graders today.
I asked a kid if they play with a safety.
He said "No, safeties are for babies...."
I said "good point."
