Not as exciting as most of the posted pics but it is a boat ride.

This is the ferry across the Mississippi river. Can't remember exactly where.

Our feerless leader cyclejohn, master of the wheelie sloburban, master of my own domain Bikehigh, crossing the Susquehanna at Millersburg.

The locals seemed all worked up over the three inches of unforecast rain last night. The ferry boat captain was nice enough to carry us across even the he was officially closed today.

Later in the same trip, we got a bit lost in Malawi and came across this

After coming across this thread via the Philly TOR game, I decided to take my own trip out to check out this river crossing.

Millersburg Ferry in Pennsylvania

Pretty sure it's the same as this ferry:

which is the Cassville Ferry, connecting Cassville, WI, with Turkey Creek, IA. Not as exciting as some of the pix, but there are a couple miles of gravel road on the Iowa side, so it's not entirely wimpy...

I was on that same Cassville car ferry crossing last Thursday afternoon 7/8/2011. I thought it was pretty cool. Had pretty a good burger at the Town Pump after the crossing.

Gonna be crossing it again this afternoon. According to the website, this is the last year for the current ferry barge; a new one is under construction. Be interesting to see what it looks like next year.

Couple years ago I stopped into the Town Pump. While enjoying a burger, I asked about the ferry. Bartender pointed to the guy knocking 'em back at the end of the bar and said, "He's the captain. Don't think it's gonna be running today..."
