I went the other way. Since those pics, I found a '77-80 XLH 2.50x18 rear mag, reworked the spacers and threw it on. The rear blinkers were replaced with aftermarket units and the front fender replaced with an Arlen Ness Cafe.
I also put the belt drive back on. Big difference!! The bike feels sluggish with the belt, compared to the chain. I may put the chain drive back on later.



I also have a 4.2 gallon tank I just shot black. I haven't made up my mind which way to go, whether to just throw a decal on and clear or do something fancy in a green color.
It's a work in progress.

wasn't long till it went on the chopping block





then came a new chopping block



then life was breathed back into her



and she grew into an ADV style bike with plenty of travel

edit: I have all the parts and can return it to stock if I want to, and plan on keeping them, the only permanent mod is the swing arm and that is a common part if I didn't want it stretched

isn't it just dual plugged and higher comp?

still seems like it'd be cheaper to do the engine mods vs. the premium you probably paid for the sport.

I have been watching this build since its beginning and I have to say congrats!! Have you weighed it yet? Also if you have gone off road , how's the weight once it gets "rough" ?

I have been wanting to do something similar (ADV that is) but more like an old XLCH homage.

It was accually cheaper than anything else I had been looking for. I was a kid that needed money and was trying to sell it in January. So I got a good deal.
The sport had higher compression, W cams, single fire ignition, and SE air breather. So it was a little hotter I really like the w cams.

That will be a fun build, I may give it a shot on the rubber sport. You are limited on rear travel with that one. It should make a great srambler vstrom type gravel rd bike. Let me know when you start I may have some pointers for you. I have learned alot on this last build.
