hey vtwin, do your self a favor and convert to 11" brakes. If you stick to the 9" most of the parts are available at any fork lift company. Good luck adjusting them!

I believe I already have the 11" drums. I think they came with all the 4 X 4 pickups since they are rated at 1 ton. Fingers crossed when I pull the drums.

Work has been slow on the truck. Got some more brake parts and started tearing into the left front.
![]() Oops, looks like the inner axle seal is leaking into the front wheel bearings as gear oil is getting in the grease. ![]() Good thing it forced me to disassemble the front end as the top pivot bearing fell apart when I removed it. ![]() ![]() Another plus is finding out the inner wheel bearing race has spun at some time and a not too permanent fix is to stake the hub and hope enough material holds the bearing in place. It didn't in this case. So it'll need a good hub. ![]() Ok, so looks like this project will be on hold for a bit. I have my choice now, either work on the little Suzuki K11p, M31 or start tearing down the engine of the Ulysses. At least I finally have a buyer for the Rover, so it'll be someone esle's new project.

Look at what I just got!
![]() A good tranny with overdrive! He also sold me a good front hub with drum. Glad he had the presence of mind to ask me if it was the leftside or the rightside, like crazy Chryslers, the left side has lefthand threads! ![]() ![]() I would have preferred the Warn/Saturn OD, but I'll give the BW a chance. Tried it in the car and it's seems to be working. Guy I got it from pulled it out of his '61 pickup and this tranny doesn't jump out of second like the current one reportedly does. Nice surprise in the mailbox too, all my bearings are here. ![]()

Working a little at a time and finally getting down to finishing up the left front brake. Put the new king pin bearings in, fresh grease and mixed up some knuckle pudding.
![]() ![]() I filled a grease gun with the pudding and squirted it in through the top of the king pin opening until it filled enough to get to the fill plug. ![]() Yea, I know I need to clean that knuckle up a bit. ![]() O'Reilly's had Rustoleum Rust paint on sale, two for one! @$5.99 A quick broom cleaning of the frame and a few spritz of paint and the frame looks alot better. Hey this is a working truck, not a garage queen afterall! Tomorrow, the right side!

Trying to get the brakes done by monday. So today, I finished up doing the left side.
![]() Found out the "new" leftside drum has right hand threaded wheel studs and I have to remove these studs before I finish up this side. ![]() So I started in on the right side. Of course I needed more parts. ![]() The upper king pin bearing was bad on it also. Took a bit, but it's back together with new bearings, shoes, cylinder and hose. ![]() ![]() Tomorrow, I'll finish up the fronts, as I have to put the Warn hubs back on, change the bearings on the left side since the drum fits anyway and I can get new right handed lugs instead. Hopefully I'll have time to start on the rears.

Hey Vtwin, is that a T-90/ T-18 set up. The tranny and transfer case are dirt cheap here in the east. Usually $100. Those overdrive units are like gold! Good luck getting a saturn unit they cost more then the whole truck. Project is looking good ,how about a full truck picture.

I tired that whole, add oil and go thing with my 1966 CJ5 and it didn't go so well. I've replaced every seal under it (and it still leaks a little gear oil) and I'm working on the seals in the engine (leaks gas on occasion, valve covers leak, water pump etc.)... still love it though. Working on a project rig is a lot more fun than working on something you NEED to have running.

Oy, while waiting for my ginormus socket to arrive to undo the rear axle nut, it's a 1 7/16", I took apart the seizing front Warn hubs. The left size did rotate with alot of coaxing. I had to get a large straight blade impact bit to remove the last screw holding the knob and got it apart today. Seems rubber o-ring bits were jamming the dial. Ok, set that one aside until I can get replacements.
![]() The right side I never could turn and looked like Channel Locks were used to try to turn it. So I took it apart and found out somebody really messed up. Left side ![]() Right side... ![]() ![]() ![]() I didn't even bother to clean it, it just wasn't worth the effort. Anybody see the problem?
