Thank you. I posted a question on your other thread about the oiled balance. I am trying to figure out which to order from you.
Oiled balance or G-Midland. something I can walk with yet provide good protection. Also wondering about sizing. I wear sidi cross fire size 11. What would you suggest?

The conversation on DS boots occurs with varying context. Some people feel that MX boots are the only choice, because they have the maximum protection. This is true. Some people feel that MX boots are too stiff, too heavy, and too uncomfortable for DS use. This is also true. Trying to define a mid point between convenience and protection will satisfy some people and not others. The G-Midland looks to be a lot more rigid and supportive. The will certainly sacrifice some "walkability" but should be nowhere near an MX boot. Probably best thing I can say about the topic is this: people should try to wear as much boot as they can tolerate. Hope that helps. BP Brtp4 screwed with this post 03-07-2012 at 06:55 AM |

Thank you for the detailed answer. I'm going to look at the sizing of various shoes and boots.
I'll be in touch with you next week.

A quick weight check, a pair of size 8s is just under 5 lbs for the pair. For comparison, Balance Pro Techs in same size are 5.04 lbs on our scale.
Difference is likely caused by the fact that plastic is lighter than full grain leather. FWIW, SG10s, Crossfires, etc would be 9+ lbs. BP |

Cool looking Boot, but....
I really like the look of this boot, but the toe box looks really thick (or is it tall?), which makes me wonder if its going to be a bitch trying to get your foot under the shifter easily. Also wondering about the "feel" when operating the shifter/rear brake?
Can you tell us how the boot is performing in these instances? I just ordered the A-star Scout Boot, so I would like to hear from anyone who has had both of these boots as well! |

I'm a road rider looking for winter boots. (I wear the Dainese Torque Out boots in the warmer months, and i really like the protective features of that boot. Plus they're fairly light, easy on-off, not ricky racer and fairly easy to walk in).
I've been looking at a whole range of different boots, and most of the road boots are pretty lame in the protection department, unless they're full on sport rider boots. Would you suggest these G-Midlands or one of the other boots you currently stock for a good protective winter boot. Some of the criteria that matter to me - waterproof, very good protective features while still being reasonably comfortable to walk in, prefer to not have to relocate the shifter, reasonable weight. Brian

I received them, and actually ended up selling them...first pair sold in the US goes to an inmate!!
They remind me of a higher-quality Alpinestars Scout. Similar in weight, feel, flex, but better fitting (I like the Scout but it is not on the same level fit-wise as EU made boots). Low 2lb range for the size 8. I still like the Balance, but the Midland has more ankle support, and many people are asking for that. It looks to be a very solid ADV Boot. As a Balance Oiled owner, I kind of wish I had waited. The Balance Oiled's are an amazingly comfortable, easy-to-wear boot, but I like the idea of just a little more foot protection.
But then again, hindsight prevails in this evaluation, obviously.
