Denver to Santa Cruz in 4-5 days

I am doing my first fly and ride to Denver to pick up my 950 se and can take 4 or 5 days to get her home. I will hopefully be departing Denver Wednesday the 24th of August. The plan is I-70 to Grand Junction to Cedar City, Utah and from there make my way across the desert to somewhere around Lee Vining and over the Sierras and home. I have not been through there in many years and would love any input on roads or routes, places to stay/camp(cheap, kind of blew my budget on the bike). I'd like to find a little dirt on the way if it is feasible, but I still will need to make good time (so not too technical). Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
