The big KTM 990 SMT thread -- riders check in w/ photo!

There is a 2010 Orange at Honda/Kawasaki/KTM in Marina del Rey for 12.5K with 0 miles. It's been sitting there forever. So I am sure they could cut a good deal
Also a saw a posting on cycletrader from a dealer in Tucson or Phoenix also for a 2010 with 0 miles listed at 11K.

Hi mates!
I've been riding the SMT for 2 seasons, covered more than 22k kms and now I have some issues with electronics.
Wanted to ask maybe somebody also had this and knows the cure:
First I had the meltdown of the boardcomputer wiring which then caused my battery to have 0 voltage and this was almost in the middle of nowhere in Sweden on my way to Nordkapp around a month ago, so I had to turn back home :(
Now there is the problem with ambient temperature sensor (actually it was also when I had an issue with wiring, but now all the wires are ok), temp is being recalculated every 5-10 seconds and it recalculates in small numbers 0.1-0.2 degrees all the time. My dealer tried to install new sensor and it didn't help, problem remains, then tried to connect to computer - no errors shown. Any ideas???? I don't want to get stuck again in the middle of nowhere.
On the other side I love this bike it makes a perfect combination for me: SM-T for commuting, long distance on civilized roads and LC4 Adventure for off-road and bad roads traveling.

P.s. Anybody has an aftermarket seat on SM-T?

How did your ambient temperature behave previously? My new SMT does exactly what you are describing with constant changing temperature, but on the move that makes sense. In my mind they shouldn't have shown the tenths, just the whole degrees, so it wouldn't change so much.

Just a thought, it seems the fuel mapping on the LC8s is quite poor. It seems like, perhaps, a really well crafted fuel map could do as much or more for range as a larger tank. I know my TLS which was similarly poorly mapped from the factory went ~108 miles before the light went flashy (saying I'd better find a station right away) to 140+ miles before flashy after really careful remap. Gained power and responsiveness too. Anyone doing careful maps for these bikes yet?

It started just after I had issues with wiring and battery, before I didn't recalculate so often. And it's not on the move only, while the motorcycle is parked - sensor still counting and even when the engine isn't running.
As I said I have the bike for some time already and before (when it was 16-17k km's on ODO) everything was alright.

Thought I`d check in with my SMT. Bought the bike new in `09. Now has 30.000 km`s on it. I use it for everything from commuting to racing the nordschleife (nurburgring) trips to the alps, norway, corsica. Great bike, I ride it hard most of the time, love to wheelie and slide it into corners. Bike is holding up fine, eats a lott of tires though.

I run it on everything thats needs wearing down / I can get cheap. From pirelli scorpion syncs, to used track supercorsas. The firts set of conti sport attacks were completly gone after 3500 km.
Before a trip I usually mount new michelin pilot road 2ct (2 compound sport touring tyre) they last about 5000 - 6000 km if I dont abuse them too bad. I ride my bike hard, if you take it easy you could probably get 8000 - 10000 km out of a set pilot road 2`s.

So it sounds like KTM is still having some fueling issues with these engines. Does anyone know if they are getting any better with the latest couple year models or if there is a re-flash, etc, to make it any better?

Also, does the big 990 have the changeable map settings like the 690 does?

What sort of real world mileage are you all getting from a tank on the SM-T's?
I have an 06 950 Adventure with carbs that I can get right at 200 miles a tank on and I also have the 2010 Multistrada 1200s that gets right at 200 mile range per tank.
I really like this 990 SMT and think I need one and would like to know all the little niggles about them.

Anyone know if the Adventure wheels will fit the SMT?

I also run the Pilot Road 2's on my Ducati. I love them. Great handling, hook-up, and wear. Riding pretty hard on the twisties up here in OR. I can get at least 4600 miles out of a rear and close to double that on the front. That is with 150 hp on the Ducati Multistrada 1200s.

No complaints about fueling on my stock '11.

No user switchable map like the 690 that I'm aware of. There's a plug for running low octane fuel.

I'm getting a consistent 33-34mpg on my 28 mile round-trip commute. This is about 25% surface streets, 25% heavy traffic, and 50% highway cruising.

I get about 31mpg for stop-and-go commuting and about 40-41 on trips. Day rides are somewhere in the middle. When the light comes on I put about 3.9 gallons in the bike, so theoretically in trip mode it should get 160 before fillup and just shy of 200 before walking. A recent half-trip half-commute fill-up was at 143 when the light turned on.

Pretty much the same here. Low fuel light on around 110 miles for town riding, but it doesn't come on until well after 150 miles on trips. I've gone up to 175 without seeing the low fuel light, but that tank was entirely on the highway.

Fueling on my 2010 is fine.

I like to slide the bike into corners (and sometimes out of corners), that really eats the tires. The road surface also has a big impact on tirewear, I often ride in france and the black forrest in germany, most of the road surface there is like sanding paper. Normally I change the fronts at the sametime with the rear, front is not reall worn out but because of the uneven wear the bike doesnt handle neutral anymore.

I think I once got 7500 Km (4600 mls) out of a road 2.
