Oakland BBQ in June

Esben came out to the OMC clubhall one Weds night. Later in the week I took him to lunch. I had a groupon for BBQ in Oakland. We went BBQ wild at this place.

Yes, we had some leftovers but that's what we do in the USA, right?

P.S. BBQ hamburgers at the clubhall meeting tonight, folks. Left overs from the 3 Bridge Poker Run on Sat. Check out my youtube channel to see what that was all about.

That bug...

was a stowaway on an alien ship now housed at area 51 where secret scientists back-engineer the technology. I'm sure of it.

Nice to see you back, Camilla. I hope you stop on by to see us again. Many of us OMCr's will be taking off to Oregon for our 1/2 way run with the GVMC. Then, many of us travel up to Canada or to Idaho and the rockies, trying to see which group can take the most bitchenest long and twisty loop back. If you end up that way end of July beginning of August, let me know.

Grand Canyon National Park

Finally we are online.. at least for a little while. and we are days and days behind on the RR. To bad for you guys..! But Today I will update a few pictures and maybe a few comments.

After a few but really good days at panthers house in Las vegas we drove out.. even if we could have used a day more a the pool side.

We drove a little on the interstate. And I have always been amazed by the really really big trucks.

But only after a few hours we got of the pavement and it was fun!

But after only a few hour we ran into our first problem.. Minis bike was acting funny.. stalling and suddenly there was was all over the place. Running out the air box and smoke was coming out the exhaust.. And since I just fixed the engine I was scared the I had done something wrong or missed something.
But we quickly found the problem.. and that was good. Be course we was loosing gas quickly!!!!!
So here is something for all of you out there with a dirt bike.
You know that most aftermarked tanks has a crappy plastic fuel cap. and there you are just supposed to put on a little hose to make sure that water dont come in and that gas dont come out when you fall.
But we got just a short hose on the gas cap and then a smart little valve on that...
one just like this one.

but here is the problem. when it really really hot the gas and air in the tank expands so much that pressure builds up and at some point even the fuelcock cant close. So the bike was getting way way to much gas.
So we had to get the bike fixed. got the spark plug out and got all the gas out of the cylinder. and most of the gas out og the air box..

but we got it fixed and got back on the road..

but we was running out of light and had to camp on the side of the road.

Next day we rode to grand canyon! first it was flat

and at one place there was more grasshoppers that rock on the road!

at stores out in nowhere you can get everything. I like the store.. BEER and Wine... and look at the picture!

just north of grand canyon we ran into a couple from france.. and yes they rode all the way!

check out there website!

Finally we made it to the north rim of grand canyon!

found a nice campsite with a great view!

playing in the sunset

we was taking down the tent.. and was thinking about how waterproof it is. and I think its pretty good! even that air cant get out when you take out the tent poles.

then we spend a day checking out some of the view points.
here is fire point where we meet some nice people.
(father and son)

unnamed viewpoint

can you find Mini on this picture??

I ate too much in las vegas! haha

grand Canyon can be kind of scary!

if you look closely you can see the Colorado river in this picture.

mmmh DINNER!! can it get any better!

Not the worst view.

and Jiffipop for dessert! NICE

and this is what we woke up to! its Fire point by the way!

next stop was Zion National park.

we could not find a camp site near the park.. but looking online we found that we could camp for the same price as in the park at Zion ponderosa resort.. 20 dollars a night.. including pool, towels and tons more stuff. NICE

Do you see our tent.. Not the worst place!

Life is SOO hard!

check out this dinner! baked potato with bacon. Made in the fire and then served with tons of sour cream!

Watch out for Moose

Had the pleasure of hosting Esben(Moose) and Mini for a couple of days last week. Just thought I post an update.

I figured they needed some down time from there travel’s, so we spent day in the car cursing the sights of Reno/Virginia city and lake Tahoe, Next day up to High Sierra’s trails around Jackson Meadows.

Then on the final day, up to Pevine Mountain for some target shooting and sight seeing.
Sorry for the limited report, and pictures. I’m sure Esben will give a more detailed report soon.

Finally I have time to update our thread.. Im really sorry that I have not been able to keep the threat up to date, but traveling was just more important..

Now what did we do!!??? Well after the gran Canyon we stayed at that fancy resort!! REALLY COOL and for just 20 buck a night.. including pool and all!

And since it was a real tourist place thay even had a fake rodeo every saturday night! Pretty fun.

The resort was really close to Zion National Park and we was told that it was a really pretty place..

Also quite a few people was talking about some hike in something called "the Narrows".
We found out it was a hike in a river inside the Zion NP.

So we desided to do that.

it was really cool. I dont think we walked more than about 4-5 miles.. but it took us 5 hours!

In some places the river was pretty deep! So we had to be a little creative. Most people only walked in a mile or two so they never got this far.

as said.. most people only walked in a mile or so.. so in the beginning there was SO SO meny people.

but all in all it was the best hike we have ever done.. and very different.

another hike I would love to do another time in Zion is the hike to "angels landing" where you on the last part of the hike walk up in the edge of the canyon.. from down below we could see people walking up there!

Animal picture... as usual :-)

Riding back from a long but great day.

Natural bridges national monument!

For the first time we had bad weather so we decided to just get all of our gear on and get moving... hoping for better weather somewhere else.
So we drove east.. and on the way we checked out Bryce Canyon National Park..

Bryce Canyon felt more like a tourist trap than most other national parks. But on the other hand since there was a lot of people we could could get supplies and gas.
and get inside where it was dry!

Funny thing... in Denmark gas in about three times the price... but we also get higher octane gas. the lowest in octane in Denmark is 91 and then 95 or 98..
then check this out.

later that day we found a nice little camp ground

and got some food...

at the little campground there was a funny guy from texas I think. He really really needed a new rear tire...
well Its amazing he even made it this far! 17.000 miles he said..... on a sport tire and a race bike......

when it got dark we started hearing a noise.. almost sounded like a plane!! but i wasnt.

it was this guy! or girl.... or whatever!

and then we went to bed!!!

Next day we headed out in great weather again.. through Capitol reef, but on the back roads!

Looking over the Colorado River!

And then we made it to Natural Bridges National Monument.
I was almost out of gas.... since the last gas station was closed.. and had been for a while.
But lucky me.. At the Ranger station we could buy a little gas. 4.50 a gallon, but when you really need it and there is 50 miles to the next town.. Who cares!

we got gas and set up camp.. then drove around the little loop to see the natural bridges!

Ekko at Natural bridges

ANIMAL PICTURE!

Old indian ruins!

another natural bridges..... only up still be course Mini was helping!

we found out that one of the rangers was doing a astronomy class that night... so we drove up to the ranger station to check it out..
It was really amazing.. they had a big telescope.. so when it got dark we had a chance to see saturn.. and the rings around saturn! we saw a dying star, another galaxy and star clusters! that was SO cool!

The road to hell...!

yes Utah can be really hot but HELL is more than hot..
this was the road to hell!

Even though we got up pretty early it was already hot

I have been planing to go to some indian ruins in Calorado but we could see that we was not going to make it that far. So we made a small detour to check out some smaller local ruins.

after getting gas and food.. more maybe even more important WATER we got back on the back roads.

First it was just really pretty and nice roads..

and really pretty too!

But a day before there had been a lot of rain! and well rain affects the road a bit..
Water on the road OK

Water flushing some of the road away.. OK

Water making big rocks fall on the road.. OK

Water fucking up the road... OK fine.. we just go around!

Road going across the river.. OK

Road going INTO the river.. FUCK

Here is few videos from todays watercrossings......

watercrossing...and almost crash

Cheating

LAST ONE!!!

So turned around.. backtracked a little and then found another way!

Finally after a VERY long day we made it to Canyonland National Park (south part of it) and camped for the night..
there we met another rider.. a guy from alaska.. He had been on the road for a year now.. Thats life!

Mini was as usual full of energy.. So she did a little run up on the funny rocks in the sunset!

Even doing a little exercise!! Its AMAZING after a full day of rding offroad...

Goodnight everyone

The road IN hell...!

Yesterday we did the road to hell.. today we was going to do the road IN hell.. We just didnt know that yet!

We had even asked at the ranger station how the road was and if it was open.. and she said NO PROBLEM.
and the first few hours it was just fine.. Good road and the view was cool!

but then the road changed... its wasnt to far until we knew we would get to a better road.. so we pushed on.. One obstacle at a time.. always making sure that we would be able to go back!

We dont really have many pictures!! and why????.. well we was really working hard!

But to describe it a little... THIS IS THE ROAD...!! WTF

Yes THE ROAD IN HELL

I cant tell you how happy we was when we finally made it out to a better road!
and even better we found a place that had cold water!! but more about this later!

Here is a few videos from todays ride.

Base Camp is a little place with a campground and few room.. Run by a really nice guys named Tim.
He gave us water and offered that we could camp for free..
So we went into Moab.. only 10 miles away... to get food
BEST BURGER EVER BY THE WAY!

clean the bikes.

and have the panniers fixed... all the hitting rocks had finally done a number on the aluboxes.

Just before sunset we drove back to "base camp"

What a view!

BASECAMP and Moab UT

So if you ever get to Moab then you are going to want to camp at base camp..
Yes its about 45 minutes outside town but its totally worth the trip.. even if you dont want to camp there then just ride the road anyway!

Ok so what is Base camp.. Base camp is a campground/resort run by Tom. Tom got the place 5 years ago and live there with his pet... and not just any pet... a 100 pound tortois named Ko Kae (Kobay)

Tom is cleaning

This is base camp..

and its cheap... 5 dollars for camping, 10 dollars for staying in these!

getting the room is more expensive but then you also get to play with the toys in the garage!
3 trials bikes, 3 ATVs and much more!

we stayed for a few day and spend a lot of time just relaxing.
Mini looking a Ko Bea

Ever heard the story about the turtle and the rabbit!

Every afternoon Ko Bae come out and eat

then he goes for a hike.. just check out the videos on this website.
http://basecampmoab.blogspot.com/

or maybe he just walkes back home!

Also Tom had a lizzard living on the porch! it was so tame that I could hand feed it.

If you open this link you and go down a little Tom has actually posted a little video of me feeding the lizzard.
http://basecampmoab.blogspot.com/sea...&max-results=7

Ok enough about base camp!
We also did other stuff in Moab..

We went out river rafting on the Colorado River.. on a part of it called West Water.. pretty wild!
We got in a small raft with a nice family from California.. I think it was San jose...

Since we was busy surviving I didnt really get a lot of pictures.. but I did get a few when we was going for a swim.

ANIMAL PICTURE!

I did get a few pictures of some of the other rafts..

The Slickrock trail in MOAB.

We also went out mountain biking. We was told they should have a really cool mountain bike trail called "slickrock"
so we went into town to rent mountain bikes. The first place wouldnt rent us the bikes.. WTF they said it was too late in the day and it was too hot! We really felt like some stupid tourists..

So we went down the street to Poisen spider cycles and rented two bikes there instead..

Here is a few pics from the trail.

Even had to puch/pull/cary the bike a lot of times

Hard trail!!! really hard trail!
Its 10.5 miles... and it took us 3.5 hours to do!

WE DID IT!!!!

And then back to base camp

Weather and Disc Golf

The weather in Utah can really change.. One minute we sit in the sun and enjoy the heat and a minute later its sand storm!!

or thunder and rain!
Good thing we needed a shower!!

and then suddenly the weather is great again!

and thats when it gets really pretty

So we went out to play Disc Golf for the first time ever! It was really fun... and the two other guys that was staying there was really big into disc golf!

Mini was REALLY good at it!! I mean REALLY REALLY GOOD.. So I think we have to try thing again.
The disc golf course was featured in a magazine article on extreme disc golf courses, along side Antarctica and Iraq.

I would really like to come back to base Camp..
Meet my friend the lizzard again!

Hike out to see some more petroglyphs.

and enjoy the sunset.
