This is a pretty eclectic bunch. In the same thread we have discussed architectural treasures, politics, attractive Latin women, and firearms. Can't beat that.

Well, nothing that rhymes with "firearms"

Like world travel anywhere, or visiting the "other side of the tracks" where you're from, your best "tool" is....wait....guess now.....common sense.

Seriously, the only moto traveler I know of in Mexico, C.A. or S.A. to employ a "tool" is Max (Bananaman), who used pepper spray in a parking garage. OK well my bad, Glen (Striking Viking) used a key to draw blood. So there's that.

Your best tool is your brain. In Mexico or anywhere else on this planet.

Relax.

And discerning as well. I was wondering if anybody would take the troll bait on page 322. A big pat on the back to all the regulars for not taking it.

I'll try to phrase this best I can. If you're thinking you need to prepare for Mexico with this mindset, maybe now isn't the best time to be traveling for you. Seriously, and I don't mean this as an insult, if you go "all armed up" to your satisfaction, whatever that is, you'll be so tense you might have well stayed home in the first place.

A big +1 for that advice.

I don't take anything down there that I can't walk away from if someone really wants it. Being targeted for violent crime is so unlikely, as is the chance of successfully defending yourself against those who do such things, that you really should concentrate on avoidance vs. defense. Bananaman was returning alone to his bike in a parking garage (at night, IIRC). You might avoid that scenario.

NB: in cease you don't know the story, Glen used the key on himself to cause a nose bleed as part of a ruse to deceive his captors in Colombia.

please don't blow this out of proportion... all I was try to do is find out what is legal to carry in Mexico.

nothing wrong with being prepared. this includes avoiding all dangerous areas and activities. especially at night.

It might have been the "stun gun" question that sent it that way. Maybe.

Some riders report carrying large sheathed knives (over 4") when also carrying camping equipment and are not bothered about it. I only carry a pocket lock blade.

Hope that helps.

It depends who you are and how you move the theory of legality is on the book, you don't want to confront a judge there. and if you get got with a tiny thin little join by the military you will lead the battalion to the crops. before they arrest you My guns in Mexico are on the safe box caring one, is asking to get shot people will smell it on you
