Its a lamb - the inscription says Children of John J & Elizabeth J Davis. Thanks Gregster. Duh, lamb! How the hell did I miss that? I can be a bit dim at times. |

Left work early today and headed out in search of fire towers. 0 for 2 on the fire towers I'm afraid. I followed the map I posted and tried Elk Mt. first. The map lead me to a trail that looked promising so I lugged my sorry ass up this wicked steep rutted trail. No way I could have ridden the DR up that trail and I was riding the Tiger so didn't even think about it. Made it to the top and I was at the top of the chair lifts! The map shows the tower farther to the east. Couldn't see any towers around so that one was a bust, Same for the Snow Hill Rd site in the Poconos. This trail was gated so I walked but could have ridden the DR on it. No fire tower there either, damn. I'm sure I was at the right location there but it didn't even seem high enough to warrant a tower. Maybe that map isn't very accurate. I'll keep searching.
Here's a link to that map source. http://itouchmap.com/?f=tower&s=PA A few pics from today. It was gorgeous out so not finding any towers wasn't that bad really. Nice riding and beautiful temps in the high 60's. On a detour caused by a washed out bridge. Glad I had to go that way... ![]() HAPPY HAY! ![]() No tower but there was one flower, just one... ![]() hardy tree...

The Happy Hay is just a few miles from my compound. If the waterfall pic was taken on SR 2036 then that's even closer.

I think it was actually. I was trying to take another road a mile or so farther south but the bridge was washed out. Do you know anything about a fire tower at Elk?

The road a mile south is the road we live off of. They decided to replace the bridge and have been working on it since June. I don't know anything about the fire tower, but I will recommend that you don't get caught with a motorized vehicle anywhere on the mountain.

Todays ride was all pavement from Stroudsburg south to just above Easton then over the Delaware to Belvedere and back up to Dingmans Ferry on the Jersey side. Beautiful roads. Seems you just can't pick a bad one down this way.
![]() ![]() Dingmans Ferry Bridge... ![]() shot from the pillions perspective, Maybe I'll get some fog pics riding home early tomorrow morning. There never seems to be a shortage of that between Scranton and Binghamton. ride4321 screwed with this post 10-10-2011 at 05:38 AM |

Thanks Strass, beautiful area, the pics are just snapshots really. We don't seem to be getting the colors this fall, too much rain I guess. The only decent colors I saw this weekend were around the Pocono raceway. Great weather though and that's good enough for me.

Great pics and narrative. I love riding the backroads like that in the North Georgia mountains. Thanks

OK, I'll level with you, these pics were from a hike on foot today. Had the kids and took my girlfriends dog for a long walk in the IBM Glen this morning. Hey, I took the camera, it was beautiful out and we hiked about 5 miles at least, it's worth posting a few pics right? It's my thread and I'll do as I please dammit
My youngest son Tanner loving the walk... ![]() Picnic Table... ![]() Walkin... ![]() only one pic with Koda the best dog I know... ![]() I will get out on the DR this week for more pics but our leaves are down from rain and we never reach peak colors here this year. |

SCORE!
![]() I finally found a place close by to get some good practice in. About 5 minutes from home there's a nice power line trail that has lot's of varied terrain. I didn't ride it all since I pussed out on a few steeper rocky parts and mud. I'm still learning and riding alone so give me a break ok? When it dries out a little I'll tackle more of it. Great to find this place though. ![]() ![]() Wussed out on this steep shale but only because of the mud bog at the bottom. I'll try it when it's drier down below. ![]() ![]() This was taken at work this morning. One of the few colorful trees in the area...
