For Sale
Side view of side w/ tailpipe "Famous double-headline bike was owned by legend Bud Ekins." The 1949 Triumph Trophy TR5 Scrambler Custom ridden by The Fonz in the television hit series Happy Days will be one of the highlights at Bonhams' upcoming Classic California Sale in Los Angeles. ![]() Happy Days, the beloved American sitcom that aired for ten years from 1974 to 1984 and attracted millions of viewers each week, helped launched the career of such actors as Ron Howard, Scott Baio and Henry Winkler. Winkler's character, Arthur Fonzarelli known famously as The Fonz and Fonzie was initially just a secondary character that became so popular with fans he was soon made the central figure of the show. As the epitome of cool, the motorcycle-loving Fonzie, dressed in the stereotypical garb of The Wild Ones, spawned countless wannabes among the youth of America and became a cultural icon that still resonates today. And Fonzie's motorcycle, a customized Triumph, was owned off-screen by another cultural icon, Bud Ekins. The late Bud Ekins was famous as a motocross racer, Hollywood stuntman (he's the one that made that legendary motorcycle jump over the barbed wire fence in The Great Escape), and as Steve McQueen's best friend. With his warehouse of hundreds of motorbikes, Ekins was the go-to man in Hollywood when producers needed two wheels. So when the people from Happy Days called, it was Ekins who determined what the coolest guy on TV should be riding. Taking an old Triumph in his collection, he simply removed the front fender, replaced the handle bars and spray painted the tank silver and, violα, the Fonzie bike was born. Of course, no one had any idea of just how popular the show would become or the magnitude of fame Winkler's character would achieve. This now iconic emblem of American pop culture will be offered by Bonhams at their annual Classic California Sale, held November 12th, at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Renowned for offering property from famous actors each year Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Clark Gable and Bruce Willis, to name just a few this autumn auction is not to be missed by aficionados of pop and custom culture and entertainment and automotive history. That's probably not a bad thing. I know from experience that Ohio is anal-retentive when it comes to registering mopeds and will only take those on a short, pre-approved list.

Oh yeah, it's officially 16 miles, but the thing about Perry is that the place is poorly maintained so people have just made off-trail trails all over and everywhere...in actual measure there's probably 100 miles of trails if you could ride them all.
As mentioned above there are some mud pits there, but 99% of them are on the marked trails (the blue and orange ones). They're avoidable, and all the fun stuff is the "off trail" sections. The thing I like about it is there's no sense of structure...just trails going here, there, up hills, rock faces, down slimy sides of hills, you name it. It's a playground, perfect to build confidence or hone skills. What I would not do is ride Perry alone unless you're comfortable offroad...there is little traffic and it's very possible to get stuck or hurt and not be passed by another bike or quad for a week. If you're in town, I'll ride it with ya. Just drop me a line. |

Long time no post...
It really has been a shame the weather being so perfect for riding just as I'm starting to feel good enough to take advantage of it, and I'm busy at an out of town wedding or Cyberknife treatment preparation at St Anns to remove my last 2 remaining tumors.
Oh well, gotta have priorities, and I'm pretty sure the wife won't let me put riding ahead of treatment or my nieces wedding. Fall isn't over yet. I'm still going to make it out there.

Year arround deer season
Those lousy deer will run into anything. I have seen an accident report where a deer had run into a landing airplane. I once saw an airlpane that had deer whistles installed on its landing gear. Carl

Couple of years ago, a bizjet landing at a "short" WVA field hit a couple on landing and ended up off the runway. I don't think anyone was injured but I felt sorry for the mechanic that was gong to have to clean that up. Happened at night.
I reported deer to the tower once and got the "Roger, Ya'll be careful now, ya hear?" The funniest deer collision is still Swingset's "There I was stopped at a stop sign and a deer runs flat dab into me." Stupid things. |

I had the Tengai in the truck bringing it home Saturday night. I was on 586 south of Mt. Vernon about an hour after sunset. A small deer ran out and I thought I was going to run it over, but it hesitated then ran into my front driver's side wheel. It doesn't look like any real damage, just a little fur and a few places where the road grime was wiped away. Scared the crap out of me.
I hate the things! I have several hundred apple trees at my farm & they are a huge problem. Seems like all the hunters want trophy deer.....I want them thinned out....all of them.

"Seems like all the hunters want trophy deer....." Group I hunt with has a simple rule when it comes to deer hunting....if it is brown, it is down One of the farms I hunt (which is owned by a distant relative) has a simple rule...if you are a trophy hunter and allow a doe to run by you, you lose hunting privileges on the spot....he doesn't care about the bucks, he wants the doe's eliminated! Almost hated to face him a few years ago when 2 of us shot 2 bucks that ran out of the woods....but since we didn't see any doe's, he gave us a pass on the ban.....Guess we have removed enough doe's we are allowed one mistake

You can get a nuisance deer permit to kill a lot of them, certain criteria need to be met, but having an orchard / financial hardship from crop loss should fit the bill.

Check your local airport - they have to control critters on the runway so they will "check you out" but you may be able to bag all you want.
