First the TA, now Jim is selling off spares?
Is the BMW that compelling? Is Honda ownership about to be terminated? Will our hero be seduced by europeans?

I'm in the mood for a 4-wheeled project anyway. Okay, it's a BMW 2002tii. Honda cars are kind of boring.

Haven't come across an NSX project yet. My wallet is not that deep, especially with a senior looking at colleges.
My AT doesn't look like this anymore.

Bike died
Ok guys, went for a short ride to a bike night and never made it. Bike died like it was running out of gas, push starter motor cranks a few times like normal then dead. No poer at all as if battery has puked and is done. Can not get it to fire pushing it. Push bike to gas station fill with gas and hook to jumper cables bike turns over for a while before firing and then idles fine. Mount up ride toward the house no indicators or lights will work and bike dies completely a mile down the road.
I am pretty sure this is a stator issue or RR it is also called. What say you experts? I have not unload from my truck yet so have not checked anything. My intention is to unload tomorrow night and then start with the battery and move to the stator and keep moving forward from there... sound good? |

Likely the rectifier.
It sounds like you were running on only the battery. The jump and restart at the service station recharged the battery a bit and allowed enough to run. Headlights quickly drain things back down again if there's no power coming in. If it's daylight, pull the headlight fuses and the bike should run for quite a few miles (YMMV) if the battery is only powering ignition. I say rectifier because that's the common problem. The actual problem is that electrical power is not being put into the bike from the stator that produces it. So, the problem can be with the stator, the wiring, the connector plugs, the rectifier and so-on up the line. Check easy stuff first: (a) batter terminal connections and all "ground" connections. (b) the 3-wire connector between the stator and rectifier (c) condition of battery (will it hold a good charge) (d) charge rate.....if you charge the battery and get the bike to run, measure voltage across battery terminals while bike is running at idle and then at about 4-5000 rpm (max. output). We'll go from there............................ |

Good advice by Ladder. How old is your battery. It may be tired and old. Once it's up and running you need to test the output of your alternator. If your not savvy with a multimeter....which you will need... then watch the following tutorial. Yes it's for a car however the voltages prescribed are almost identical to our AT's. If you do exactly whats in the vid then you have sucessfully troubleshot your output voltage. Stators rarely fail so i'm betting on your battery or R/R. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzz7P...V-wg&index=113
